i just dont like the idea of the users running the mods instead of the other way around, you know

That'd lead to far too much backlash unless you moderated them so far you reached what I suggested in the first place ;)

well i think an easy solution is to tighten up on the sections that newbies will be looking at most likely (EM/GD/Complaints) and then going from there
The only way to ever get these forums working would basically be to forum ban every old user who ever uses them and then let them naturally fill up, which would take months. And also won't happen. I did suggest it once.
that or actually punish people for being jerks instead of letting them run rampant?

nooo i meant that's something lucid should change the code to emulate, making each of the 3 recent posts 3 recent threads instead

like i feel
moderators
should moderate a forum
but none of that really happens.

Frankly having new players go to the forums and meet the average forumer is a really good way to ensure we get No New Players.
well the problems the forum faces is that none of the current mods really moderate it they just make shallow warnings and hope people stop
The problem the forum faces is that it's full of all the people you don't want new players to meet, because they're the only ones who care enough to post about mafia. And the rest of the forums are just an afterthought, except Complaints, which you also don't want to direct the new players to. Although burying complaints is a pretty cynical and farcical way to avoid that.

no one is going to use these awful forums unless the code is rewritten

if you want to get people to start using the forums then do it in a ethical sense instead of adding useless sub-sections (besides new to em, that's good)

hey can we rename food and drink to comestibles
i think its more appropriate

It should also be noted that Sandbox Lobby has a much wider poster-base, by having even less subforums than we had here before these additions.
that's because it promotes a more friendly discussion that isn't riddled by people looking to start trouble and if jasper wanted to clean up the forums in that way then he would make certain sub-sections more strictly moderated than others
