Anon setups are fine for comp, it's just that no one plays them because people like to meta with their friends and use the colors they paid for in game. I do think it's lame when you play anon and you out who you are. I don't think there's any way to really stop that though.
Manhunt is probably getting abused because of it's EpicRoulette nature and high payouts. It shouldn't be allowed. Competition should be about skill with a hint of luck, not the other way around.
I mean, i just feel like you guys are trying to take away the epic out of epicmafia in competitions.
Before every round used to have fool and stuff like that. Now it's almost impossible to get third parties comped. If people don't like them and don't comp them then so be it, but if they keep trying to comp them it then it's obvious they want to play them. But whatever
its not the point payouts as much as manhunt being largely a bunch of random bullcrap where it's possible for town to lose night 1
I think the bigger issue with the setup is how much of an advantage certain players have in it, there's 3-4 crucial actions that have no in game type basis (Maf kill, SK kill, Big kill, Jailer kill) so if you play with people less likely to use one of those on you then maf/killer and to a lesser degree town wins become easier to pick up. Setups not comp worthy at all.
yeah that was a concern as well you just said it better than me
meta is a huge part of the game and anon games means you lose a huge component of the game
Completely disagreed. Meta from prior games isn't a huge part of mafia IMO.
Developing meta in-game is. For example, noticing someone seems particularly smart and therefore less likely to do x play is vital, but knowing beforehand who likes to claim cop isn't.
And @vancy: sure, some setups shouldn't be allowed to be comp, but I'm of the opinion that these are exactly the setups that shouldn't be allowed in the site at all. To me, there isn't or shouldn't be difference between what's allowed red and gold, and I believe in quite loose guidelines for red.

It just sucks because people are used to playing otherwise and because people either troll or start namehunting/outting in them.
Theoretically they are much better. However it's really stupid that you can see who you're playing with in per game, that defeats the point of it
To be honest, in anon games that are ranked you really shouldn't be able to out people's identities. That is in itself a form of cheating or at the very least OGI. Its a game mechanic and you can't just subvert game mechanics. I don't think there's a precedent on the matter, though - correct me if I'm wrong.
Obviously though, as with the guiser role, we can't do anything about people subconsciously doing this.
It's sucks. Very painful and no one even uses the good decks

Honestly I subscribe to the same philosophy, Steven. There obviously are some setups that shouldn't be played competitively, though.
In any case, that sort of thing should be a community decision - I certainly don't play competitive religiously and if the vast majority of the community wants to play a particular setup, there's no reason to keep it blacklisted. If you're dissatisfied with any particular setup being blacklisted from comp (that isn't also blacklisted from ranked), I encourage you to PM me about it.
Outside of pointfarms, I'm all about letting the winners choose whatever setup they like. People always complain about all the setups they don't like but in the end...
If you want to pick the setups, win a trophy. Otherwise let the winners choose the setups they like. This way, generally speaking, the setups that appear the most will be the most "enjoyable", and by that I mean the most people like to comp them, not how close it is to a pure scumhunt.
The competition isn't about officially awarding the best scum hunter, it's just supposed to be a fun thing to attract more people to the site, and if they like playing third parties, let them have a competition and see who plays fool better or killer or whatever
there's a difference between a bad setup and a not comp worthy setup.
The setup makes it really easy for cheatinf of mera bias to come into play without any o it being something you can 'catch' I think that alone makes it not comp worthy.
Anyway I'm off.
Well, regarding cheating, I wouldn't say that. Going by what people like petri have said, it is much harder to cheat in 3rd party setups because they are more unstable.
Regarding kill bias, sure. But all games have some element of this and it's really impossible to eliminate without playing anon which for some reason everyone hates so

Exactly, Slow, I agree. In any case, I (and the mod team as a whole) will re-evaluate if it is comp-viable at the end of the round.

Yeah, honestly I'm having doubts about ever letting it be comped again. Consider this round just a test.
