Pretty much. This wouldn't be a huge deal if only lucid just made anon start in pre game but oh well. It's not like it still wouldn't be optimal for town (probably) but at least mafia could just claim to be someone no one knows well

anon sucks because it's optimal for town to out who they are, meaning mafia are forced to out themselves so they arent fos'd
Out of game player-based meta only makes the game unfair to those who play mafiaelsewhere other than the site, and makes friend bias grudges or other biases all the more common
meta is also based on how good you judge someone to be, if im playing against good players, then thier reads/towntells arnt worth as much as bad players, if someones really emotional, then thier ATEing isnt worth as much as someone who isnt, thats a large part of the game
Meta doesnt mean bias and if you're friends with people, its not hard to tell who is who in anon games....
Yes, meta can be anything, including knowing who's good and who's not. I'm just drawing a distinction between in-game reads and pre-game reads. I don't think knowing any specifics about a player is needed meta, and I'm just saying this as my opinion. Going by your examples, knowing that emotional peoples ATE is not as good as non-emotional is vital knowledge to the game, but knowing that X is an emotional player isn't. I'm not saying it's bad, in fact most of epicmafia revolves around the latter type of meta, but I feel it is much fair if everyone, so to speak, is on a blank slate, like a secret alt. Then you have to create the meta while in the game. See how they speak, did they seem emotional right from the start or did they randomly become aggressive, and whatever the answer, what kind of information does this tell you? I prefer finding out who seems like an emotional player as you play better than knowing it beforehand
Basically, I see meta as something that should be acquired in each game to be used to affect your gameplay as you play, especially by the end of the game, but I don't feel like prior meta is such a vital part of mafia, more like a consequence of playing over and over with the same people. I find the player that can win against people who he doesn't know better than the person who can win against people because he knows them
imo meta is any prior knowledge as to how someone plays and that's pretty important
