yeah, it was an accident the guy got modded in the first place, and i don't think he would have been modded if bronto realized. it might not be that fair to gafgarion, but he didn't do anything while he was a mod anyway, so he didn't lose much
Sad but true tbh, even though I personally agree with it because I wouldn't be able to take the hypocrisy of being banned by someone who was banned before.
Bronto, appealing to change is worse than appealing to tradition.
Precedent for the sake of precedent may be a bad argument, but at least it's implied that the precedent worked before hand. You don't have the same luxury in change for the sake of change.
Saying "people need to get their heads out of sticking to precedent" or whatever it was you said is the absolute worst attitude because good precedents should indeed be kept, and some levels of consistency are needed for the stability of a site.
Should we aim to improve things and make some changes? Absolutely. No one ever said to keep the site like this forever. That's no excuse for changing things for the worse, which is what people always complain about when someone breaks "precedent". Breaking precedent via the way of making a particular exception and going from there rather than formally changing a rule is worse because it is unfair to everyone from before or the new person who was unaware depending on whoever is negatively affected by it seemingly unknowingly.
Precedents work to establish guidelines, you don't want things out of control.
I see you demodded him even though you did the small rant about precedent. Was this the right decision? Maybe, maybe not. It could be that he would have been a spectacular mod. Whether or not it was the correct thing to do has nothing to do with the precedent being there, but whether it was a good precedent to keep. You think it's a bad precedent? Then you eliminate it. But saying that it's okay because of something as vague as "things are not the way they were before" is a terrible argument.
I'm not talking about this in particular. You know I dislike a lot of the things you have changed, but I hate it more when you say things like that, when every time my arguments are about whether or not things were better before and not if change can be good or not.
First of all, remove hateful comments and harassment as in-game violations. AtE is part of the game, the violations given in-game for these offences are completely inconsistent, and you have people like MikeyRu (and myriad others) who do whatever they can to get people these violations.
