@ladynemesis, gafgarion being modded was more of a catalyst, but i still think it was a huge issue and not being a mod anymore doesn't mean i'm going to do a 180 and say it was a good move. if you're going to mod a cheater at least run it by the other mods first. i think that should go without saying
as for everything else i was planning on keeping it private until i got a message that pissed me off to the point where i didn't care anymore. i originally quit out of principle and did it privately to bronto, but it turned into something bigger than that and i kind of regret it, but i'm an irrational dude and that's what i do.
I am sorry to hear that Gafgarion won't get a chance to be a mod when there were actually very different reasons for being so much against it, Jupiter.
I appreciate it you won't go into it in the open, I also wished you'd mentioned it in mod chat before. Maybe it would have never ended like this then.
But done things can't be changed and I've probably said enough about it anyways.
I think cheating isn't indicative of your personality as much as harassment is, and how you'd handle certain things, but that's just me. It's still obviously a concern, but I'd rather hang out with a room of cheaters than a room of people with numerous harassment vios.
Cheating is a pain because it takes so long to resolve and make cases on. Harassment cases are way more emotionally draining to mod though

precedent has always been a flimsy word tossed around to justify certain actions, such as one mod ruling one way on a report and apparently setting a 'precedent' because of it, when that's not really the case at all. i think what bothers me most about modding cheaters is not the people itself, rather the public reaction, as exemplified by this thread.
Most companies fail because they never adjust to changes, and insist on doing things the way it was always done.
Whilst some rules have their merits, it should be considered. This situation would've been avoided had I had more time to do a more thorough check on the guy. Oh well, lesson learned. We always find our way back.
i was unhappy with a lot of things that i'm not going to publicly discuss any more than i already have, but yes i was angrythat dezeriae thought it was ok to mod a cheater without running it by anyone else
it would be hypocritical of me to dislike gafgarion for cheating when i like satan, anthony, togepi, and a bunch of other cheaters though

I think people need to see that not all previous cheaters are bad people. This was shown by LaurieRose. Sure, not everyone liked the way she modded, but in the end did she do anything horrible? She was a previous cheater but she showed commitment to moderating and she did what she was told to do. She proved people wrong that even though she cheated she could still be a trustworthy mod.
Jupiter, you gave me the impression you did care that a cheater was modded though. But it seems you were just unhappy with the fact it wasn't discussed with you?
I think the cheater rule is good, but it is also pretty restrictive. The site's getting on in years, and most everyone has done something that they shouldn't have.
I think people with harassment violations shouldn't be allowed to mod over people with cheating, but that's just my personal opinion. Cheating isn't as big of a deal as making someone feel bad, especially for a role that requires you to deal with people complaining on a daily basis.
i actually don't care if a cheater is modded and i think a lot of former cheaters would make good mods (satan anthony togepi) but there would need to be a thorough discussion on actually seeing if it's an ok thing to do and just assuming the precedent was broken because arcbell modded laurie is a mistake
Of course Vancy, when someone cheats while being a mod (or any very very bad behaviour for that matter) I don't think one can ever be trusted to become a mod again.

Which is why all mod candidates really need to be vetted thoroughly. It might be worthwhile using a third party to vet, like in the past (we used hiralarious for voting and such)
