released from prison early, but...

about 10 years

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-4zamzySJQ

This guy, at 20, was convicted of two armed robberies and given a 98 year sentence, served 8 years and was released due to a clerical error, lived 6 years as a free man, got married and had kids, then was forced to finish the sentence.

There are arguments on both sides of this. Should he or should he not be forced to finish the sentence?

What do you think?
29
Let him be free
6
Force him to finish his 90 Years
5
Give him a shorter sentence of some sort

If you were a criminal methinks your stance would change.

People are sentenced to hundreds of years in jail--it's not abnormal.

So 98 years is a reasonable sentence, but 1800 years is not? For most people those two numbers mean the exact same thing.

well, assuming the verdict had multiple counts of kidnapping and robbery as well as other crimes, yes. it would also be a likely number if it went to trial.

Point is it would be injustice to the others who have to serve their full sentence and didn't get the luck of a clerical error.
Stop your bleeding hearts and realize this dude is a criminal that got lucky.

you could say that, but the courts wouldn't do that and instead would just sentence him to life without possibility of parole.
about 10 years
I mean relative to 98 years, yes, but then if the courts sentenced him to 1800 years in prison and he served 100 you could say that was a short amount of time.... 6 years can be (and was in this case) life changing.

6 years is not a short amount of time.

it is relative to his sentence.

The courts should admit when they're wrong tho, don't you think?

i don't know if the courts were wrong here. if it was an excessive sentence, the guy could and should appeal based on his 8th amendment rights. i don't see how the courts are obligated to change their ruling based on him being free for a short amount of time.

In this case, 98 years vs. 8 years.. courts were probably wrong since objectively he got his s*** together. I'm saying the courts should change the ruling, not that the courts should be ignored.

yes he should be forced to finish the sentence because that's how the criminal justice system functions.

The criminal justice system functions by letting people off due to clerical errors, then putting them back in prison when they get their s*** together?

if you overturn his original ruling, you're essentially saying the courts have no power as opposed to privately owned prisons.

Tho sentencing someone to 98 years in prison is dumb and bad to begin with.

I personally give it a 0/10

You would've given him a 1/10 if he wasn't white, Slow - admit it.

here's the test - he is maf guiltied by cop on 3 way

i bet most of the people voting that they should let him stay would be outraged if a banned player came back on an anonymous alt and was deemed to be ''reformed'' then when they find out it's actually the banned user, they'll want them to serve their original ban plus an extension for bypassing

real world isn't epicmafia, kiddos.

98 years for robbery is really steep in the first place. People get out in under a decade for murder.

no they don't

they do if they're nice and white

if you're talking about first degree murder then no they don't
