Many of you are nervous to join the competitive lobby competition, understandably so. Players there can be uppity.
However, if enough of you, the players of training lobby, join the competition in competitive lobby, you'll be able to play with each other! You'll outnumber the competitive players and be able to enjoy the competitive atmosphere with fellow training players!
What better round to join than this upcoming round?
People complained that there is no more competition in Training. A lot of setups that are/were popular in Training are going to be played regularly in Comp now. It's a good promotion.
Considering how many hipfiring reports we deal with in Comp when gun setups are comped, I can only imagine how much more that number will spike up in Training with more gun setups.
I do think there are some huge limits on roles available in training that could be changed - things like sheriff etc (tried to play FJ3 once in training and roles weren't allowed).
Frontier Justice, YYC and SMGS are probably some of the most controversial and dislike setups that are played in Comp. YYC is only popular because it's a coinflip.
Basic Variant, B2NS, Jan 2, Cry n' Spy, VDLI, Basic Logic, SDS w/ML no Whisper are the kinds of setups that people should be learning how to play imo.
The problem is separating the 'serious' training lobby players (that WANT to progress etc) and those that are content with FP, cocos etc.
I think anyone 'serious' about progression and development should be the target audience - how to send the message out, I'm not so sure! I'd just start playing a load of ranked Frontier Justice, Suppa, JATW, YYCV and other setups frequently played in comp lobby. - build the games and they will come!

I appreciate this thread, but I'm also wondering, how many training players are going to visit this. Idk how about you, but I've joined comp lobby before checking forums ;) Maybe stick it up on Lobby page?

Hahaha I agree! I mean tbh when I played frontier justice for the first time ever, never having seen any of the roles like journ and sheriff, I was confused out of my mind. I think it would definitely make people feel more comfy to learn and test/play all the roles, and they would be able to transition easier!
The issue with Training compared to Comp is that there are SO many roles/setups in Comp Lobby rounds that are unavailable to play (and train in!) in Training Lobby.
If setups are being comped in Comp, players should be able to play those setups (even unranked!) in Training to learn setup mechs, role mechs and familiarise themselves with the game strategy! :)
I guess if admin has made it an offence (I assume GT) to claim as Amnesiac d1, they can re-introduce the role and enforce the rule against claiming d1 - means Training Lobby gets to play Suppa, which coincidentally is being comped in Comp Lobby (easing the transition between the two).

Oh they took it since training had SMGS comped here at one time, and training sorta made SMGS too townsided. They always had amn claim which was a good strat, but it broke the set up since if amn hammered maf...confirmed maf next day. So outting amn isn't allowed anymore since it makes the win for town really easy. IDK any other set ups that use amn besides SMGS, which was my introduction to the role.
But I really hope to see some training people give their favorite set ups a try in comp, whether running or just for fun! :)
Suppa, JATW and Ying Yang Chaos Variant are all, in my opinion, easy to learn. While the roles they have are hugely different to what Training is 'used' to, I've found it easy to become familiar with all of them and the strats/gameplay involved in each.
https://epicmafia.com/setup/949732 - YYCV. It's getting a lot of plays in comp today and I find it really balanced. There's an element of PR-reliance but also scumhunting (something Training doesn't do a huge deal of) - like Suppa and JATW.
I think to transition to comp, skills development in scumhunting and strategic play should be a real focus. In some cases there's a massive reliance on PR's to either carry the game or to find mafia which, unless you're in Classic or Cocos, doesn't work (and it sure as hell doesn't encourage development as a player).
For some reason they've blacklisted amn from Training (BIG mistake), but I'd definitely get these three setups ranked and played in Training!
