Many of you are nervous to join the competitive lobby competition, understandably so. Players there can be uppity.
However, if enough of you, the players of training lobby, join the competition in competitive lobby, you'll be able to play with each other! You'll outnumber the competitive players and be able to enjoy the competitive atmosphere with fellow training players!
What better round to join than this upcoming round?
You guys are mistaking the trial mod idea with training new mods.
Trial mods was never about training mods. It was a way to "test" people's moderation abilities. Teaching mods is something that always already happens whenever a new mod comes in.
Qualification-wise, the mods need to be players that are familiar with how the rules, both in comp lobby and training lobby, work. Specific precedents, as well as advice and tips, can and will be taught by the current mods and admins. But if the person in question doesn't know what ISP stand for, that GT requires intention, or what banids are, then obviously modding them is a lot more trouble than if an experienced player is modded, who at least is assumed to have the general idea on this.
Some training players as well as sandbox players have been modded with no problems. It's not about which lobby you prefer but whether you are knowledgeable about rules in all of them. Because the rules in comp lobby are the most complex, most people modded have naturally been from comp. Lady and Dez were "qualified", and so is almost everyone in this thread. Would they be good mods is up to the mods to decide but they fit the "requirements" needed to mod.
However, there is still an abysmally low amount of moderator applications from users that can be trusted to be active compared to what one would expect, and that is no exaggeration. Modding sucks , especially in EM.
Players should practice JATW in training then come play in comp - even I'm on the goddamn leaderboard! Also, B2NS is an easy one to learn too. Tomorrow I'll host a bunch of both and encourage players in-game to transition to comp and play them gold heart when they've had practice in training :)
u guys are missing the point of this thread, which is to urge training players to join the competition in competitive lobby (since this round offers setups from training lobby)

Some people work like that. Others don't. The selection process needs some refinement is all. They're too strict.
no dude u dont understand that its really more trouble than its worth "teaching" people
lady and dez were modded w/o any experience and they worked out really well without their hands getting held

There are plenty of speedy learners on this site. Fresh meat needs to be given the benefit of the doubt more, truly. Consistent "he's not qualified" bickering is what's driving the selection process down.
Precisely, good comparison. New mods learn over time, by some mentoring and by some experience.
In all likelihood, I think we'll get a new rotation mid-august or so. The trend seems to be that we have the same moderators for about 6 months at a time, with some notable exceptions.

One or two at a time. If the mentor program can get it right, so can the mod team. And what will be done when life calls and these mods have to quit?
With training, anyone could be a moderator, but who has the time and the will to train staff members when you have the people already there? It's very very difficult to bring new blood in simply because of all the work it'll be to bring them up to par with the other staff members.
training someone is more trouble than its worth. you're suggesting that new people should be brought in and be trained by moderators on top of doing actual moderator stuff that you argued the team not having enough people for

LaurieRose was the only trial mod to actually get to go through the program and it was faulty, but she did learn. It isn't the fault of willing individuals if the teaching methods are bad.
no. there aren't a lot of people willing to moderate who are actually qualified to moderate.

Why not get lucid to build in a timer for guns? Don't allow them to be shot for the first 3 minutes of the day. It might not STOP random firing, but it does FORCE people to read the game and possibly change their decisions.
