> Simply Roles
a role review section by SimplyJade!
This week I have decided to review the Invisible Man which was created by Lalchimiste!
The Invisible Man can choose, during the day, one person to follow. If that person has a meeting during the night, the invisible man will hear their conversation, but it won't display the names of the people who are talking. This role is sided with the village. In my opinion, this would be a really neat role to implement! I could see this being part of a setup with mafia, cult, and masons. I feel like it would work out pretty well. Maf and cultists would have to be careful with their words if the setup has an invisible man in it or they could wifom and call each other by usernames of other people. All in all, I think it would be a rather interesting role!

> Link's Games Lobby News
There wasn't much going on this past week for survivor and big brother. There was only one big game, and that was another famous HighSpace/Soda17/Link game. It was event number 3, but it wasn't a 3 tribed vivor this time, rather a 2 tribed big brother. It was very innovative like always from a High/Soda/Link game. And it was also very large and time consuming! It lasted around 10 hours, and even then, we couldn't conclude it until a day after, due to a final 3 controversy. The 2 tribes were Tribe Jesus and Dog. Tribe Jesus dominated throughout the entire game, going into the merge, only three players from Tribe Dog remained, going against seven Tribe Jesus players. The first two Tribe Dog players got picked off right away, but Ivana, the sole survivor of Tribe Dog, outlasted and outplayed every single Tribe Jesus player, making her way to the final 3 against the99 and Masnev. Ivana won the final HoH and took Masnev, beating him in a close 4-3 jury vote to win High/Soda/Link's Event #3! Kudos definitely go to the99 for practically carrying Tribe Jesus all the way, being hands down the best player of the game, aside from Ivana, the deserving winner. Another honorable mention is xMeow, who did remarkably well in this game as well, pushing her up from being an amateur to a decent player.
In other news, we are still pushing for the new engine for big brother and survivor games, which lucid is supposedly making this month. More information about this can be found in this forum: http://www.epicmafia.com/topic/51002
Player of the Week: Ivana - For winning High/Soda/Link's Event #3!

This week's winner is Prevail. Congratulations! In an interview conducted by Lady, here's what Prevail had to say for herself:
How long have you been on EpicMafia and where did you hear about the site from?
I learned about the site from weareking, I know him in real life as we go to the same university and are good friends. He introduced me to it while he was ban dodging on lmpreza, lol.
What is your biggest EpicMafia pet peeve?
People that hammer wrong and blame the person they hammered for not being town enough instead of owning up to their mistake. Also people that don't listen to dying FoSes.
Other than EpicMafia, What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I really enjoy hanging out with friends, and I'm involved with many clubs at my university. When I'm not doing that I'm usually pretty busy with college so not much time for me to be free, unfortunately.
Which letter of the alphabet describes you best and why?
W because I'm twice as good as you. (Get it? lol)
Please submit all nominations for MOTW to Lady! You can nominate yourself or a friend, but be sure to say why!

> TriAft's Comp Lobby Update
by TriAft
Hey guys, I'll be posting about Round 86 next week, once I've gotten some time to play all the new setups. In the meantime, I'll give you guys some tips on how to make a 'good competitive setup':
1. Have a 'Clear' Direction
Sure, starting out a day with just scumhunting is great, but unless it is something like LOBL, having the town aimlessly wander about is a recipe for disaster. Yeah, maybe the town can get their scumhunting right and lynch a mafia, but if the mafia are experienced, the odds of lynching mafia are slim. My recommendation is have something that points the town in a direction. For instance, Cry'n Spy's D1 consists of scumhunting, but at the end of the day, there's something that keeps the town headed in the right direction. To get this direction down, setups containing PR CCs or a possible clear on D1 makes it so the chopping block is narrowed down. Finding the balance between every-man-for-themselves and a PR-fest is crucial.
2. Make It Interesting
There are already hundreds of thousands of setups on Epic Mafia. Many will be similar to the one you are making. So make it interesting! Use a mechanic in a way people haven't before. Take an interesting role and work it into something that people will enjoy. Let me give you an example of something I did. Take this setup, one that I made a while back. When I was attempting to make it, I had the mechanic in my head of putting a Tailor into a competitive setup, so I formed the rest of the setup around that. Make sure you know what you are getting into and make sure that it is interesting.
3. Test It
Think your setup is done? Test it! Think it's too maf-sided? Test it! Think it will make people too confused, too annoyed, too frustrated? Test it, test it, test it! Testing a setup allows the people who are going to play the final version give their say on what needs fixing and what is too confusing, etc. Ask a friend to help you talk it through and figure out how to make it better. There's nothing that can go wrong by asking for help.
4. Not Every Setup Wins
Not every single setup is a good one. Know when you haven't hit the jackpot on a setup so you don't spend so much time working on a setup that isn't going to go anywhere. Pick up the pieces and try again, you'll eventually make something good.
I would just like to note that these are guidelines and not rules! Plenty of people have made setups that do not follow one or more of these points that are successful.
Good luck with your setups!
> Dear Tree...
We are starting a "Dear Tree" (ask a question) section of the news! Trees are always watching the game, without ever getting a chance to put their feedback in. Here's this week's words of wisdom! :)
>Is it love or lust? How can I tell the difference? -Submitted by Suppandigirl
Lust is defined as a sexual attraction. Love is more vague and applies to any deep "feeling of affection." True love comes from the heart and it is willing to sacrifice life, fame and fortune for whom love is shown to. True love isn't about you needing someone or about them completing you. It's about you being selfless for them. It's about their goals and dreams clashing with yours. A romance where you can help each other. The best way to see if it is lust or love is to see how much you are putting into the relationship, and also if it goes deeper than, "Oh he's SO cute!" It should be more like, "He's so thoughtful and good. He knows where he stands on important topics and isn't afraid to back down. I admire him." Just make sure your relationship isn't based entirely on feelings, because basing your judgements on emotions is sure to lead you astray.
Sincerely, Tree
If you have a question, please PM CarlySunshine24, which will be taken to our secret tree. ;)
> An EM Romance
>Thank you so much to Katie for providing us this beautiful story of her and Jasper, OriginAlJazza!
If somebody had told me a year ago that i'd fall in love through the internet - let alone a a java based mafia game - i would've laughed in their face. I never could have anticipated what could've possibly happened next, and the amazing year to come. ;3
How did you meet through EM?
I had only been on mafia for a few months and had managed to make a few friends in both competitive and training. One of my closest friends was called dazeldafreak (now ark) and we played a lot of fool training together. One day we were playing when he introduced me to a friend of his IRL called Jasper who went under the name of OriginALJazza, and having met quite a few people on mafia i was quite 'meh' about the whole situation. It was only when he struck up a conversation in the GY about Modest Mouse after seeing it on my bio that we actually started talking. So quite a normal thing, really. I would never have guessed that we'd be dating only months later!
What was the first game you remember playing with them?
Some of the first games i remember playing with Jasper were the 6 cops 1 guiser setup, we played a lot of them unranked and after a while we formed quite a close circle with other players such as ERR40, Yumii, Lightdiablo, Kurai and Apeescaper. They were good because we learnt a lot about eachother and grew closer. Eventually they advanced to cam games which were even more fun. If it weren't for those i probably wouldn't have had the confidence to take things further because i'm very insecure, but i always felt completely comfortable which was a nice change because i'm the most awkward person everrrr.
How did you guys get closer together?
We became closer over a period of about 3 months where we talked on skype and streamed music on mumu with Ark and Whispers. At the end of June, Jasper's family came down on holiday to Cornwall where i live to camp for a week, and that's when things really started to take off for real. We did things like went for walks and went to the cinema and i realised very soon that I didn't want it to be a one time thing and that I really liked this guy, he made me feel so happy and like everything made sense. I hadn't felt that way before about anyone and I couldn't let him go. So I made him promise that we'd see eachother again, and sure enough we've been seeing eachother on weekends and breaks twice a month since then both here and in London.
Why do you guys LOVE each other?
I love Jasper because he's the most down to earth, amazing guy i've ever met and loves me for who i am and accepts every part of me. I love everything about him from the way he looks right down to the sound of his voice, and the only thing that keeps me going is knowing that i'll get to see his face on skype at the end of each day. He's so perfect for me and anybody who knows me knows that i'm about of a trolly, cynical person but thinking about him makes me feel all sweet :3 He understands me like nobody else does; I'm not the prettiest or the most popular at school so i don't often get the chance to meet new people, but EpicMafia brought us together and i can't thank lucid enough for that. Even though we live 250 miles away and i met him over mafia it doesn't make things any different; it doesn't change the fact that i love him and nothing could ever break that. I hate to be cliché, but the whole experience of meeting him is so surreal and indescribable yet so perfect at the same time. I can't imagine spending my time with anyone else but him.
What is one of your favourite memories?
My favourite memory with Jasper (and probably the highlight of my whole life)was sitting on top of the cliffs in Newquay under the stars eating dominos pizza and watching the fireworks. It was so breathtaking and so beautiful and like nothing i could've ever even dreamed - almost like something from a movie - which kind of reflects our relationship in a way. Like a dream come true :3 There have been so many more amazing memories since meeting Jasper and not only has being with him been perfect it's also opened up a whole new window of opportunities - I've gotten to meet other people from mafia such as ark and Japter and also gotten to travel to London which is something i'd never dreamed of doing in a million years, let alone going on holiday to Florida with him! These past six months have been the best of my life, and i hope these memories continue for the rest of my life and i'm so grateful for everything that mafia has done for me.
I love you, Jasprar. :3
