Leaving EM

As many of you might know by now, I'm leaving EM. Tomorrow will be my last day playing, for those who might want to play with me.

As for the reasons, there's not just one, it's several, from trolls, gt accounts, bad modding (you've seen various examples lately, also here on the forums) and I decided I won't stand all of it anymore.

Before leaving, I'll leave the current mod/admin team some tips and suggestions (on different topics):

Quoting what Giga said in another discussion: "In terms of lobbies things are fine right now, imo. There are currently not enough users active on a regular basis for more than one lobby to thrive. Splitting Main Lobby would probably just make both of the new lobbies less populated and make it harder to get frequent games going.

I think expanding the mentor program and getting people to join it (maybe through some type of incentive for mentors and mentees) might be a good way to get people to try playing mafia more again. It helps new users try and get better and may get them to enjoy playing the game more.

Fixing problems like excessive hateful comments and harassment by adding harsher penalties, especially in red heart or unranked games where most newer players play, might get people to stop shying away from mafia games or Epicmafia in general, as sometimes toxicity causes people to not want to play--especially new people. Imagine coming to a new games website only for people to be extremely rude to you in the first few games. Why would you want to come back?

I don't have much to say right now, but these are just a couple of ideas. I love the community giving their ideas, it's wonderful to see and to have a good discussion about site happenings."

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Giga on (all of) this.

Some things that could help the site to improve (in different ways) imho:

  1. Fixing problems like excessive hateful comments and harassment by adding harsher penalties, especially in red heart or unranked games where most newer players play,

  2. Rewriting (IN A CLEAR WAY) all the rules, separating them and defining the key terms (for ex. hipfiring, which isn't defined yet, in the rules)

  3. Create an introduction for new players so that when they first login on EM, they know what they have to do, where to go (play 5 unranked games, that those are to "train" for ranked, what are the basic roles, where to find more info about roles /learn tab, etc)

  4. Bring the Wiki back? I have a link to an archive on the old Wiki, if you do want to bring it back, I could pm JonSnow the link and you could start from there.

  5. Potentiate the Mentor/Mentee program, make it more visible (not only on the forums, new players don't browse them) and put a limit to mentees per mentor (3? 5? no more)

  6. When you have (in the future) enough players to do so, separate lobbies again. Training (the actual Main) for Unranked and Red Hearts and Competitive for the Competition and make the system competitive again.

If I come up with more before leaving EM, I'll edit the post.

I really hope EM improves in the future, but there are no clues of it.

I've had a good game in my 5 years here, it was well played. I'll miss this place, I don't doubt it, and I'll miss many of the friends I made here, but I won't come back.

I will certainly miss playing with you. Your love of the game and mechanics and setups is always a pleasure to be around. I will not miss you pinging an afk person for 10 straight minutes before they veg >.>

I definitely noticed a change in your demeanor lately so I hope this departure allows you to lower your blood pressure a bit. Epicmafia ain't worth the stress it's causing you. Wish you the best.
That (last paragraph) is why I'm leaving EM. What you say in the first (plus all the friends I made) is why it's so hard.

just because you never say "kill yourself" doesn't mean you're not contributing to the toxicity on the site

bet those people saying kill yourself could call it "game-related bad temper" too -- it's the same thing. not crossing that line doesn't mean you aren't toxic, it just means you can get away with it easier, which you wouldn't be able to if it was "moderated more harshly" like you're complaining about.
You're part of the sh'it crowd I was mentioning, so sorry but I couldn't care less what you think of me. You're always here harrassing me and being up in my business. All you do is get into fights with people and bully them with your cyber boyfriend.

I do have a temper but that doesn't even come close to your attitude. Leave me alone thanks.

This site has become total garbage overrun by toxic a'ssholes and trolls. Not a day passes where one of the bullies' crew harrasses others or gets into arguments. You can barley get through a game anymore.. This sh'it is not being moderated harshly enough. I'm stepping back too for very similar reasons.

If I was asked to make a list of people with awful tempers who play this game I'd have you top 10, top 5 if it was actives only.
Having game-related bad temper is completely different from bullying/ telling people to kill themselves/harrassment, etc. You're intentionally missing the point.

I think redesigning the Epicmafia Page to be more user freindly will help a lot, sometimes things are too complicated and having it redesigned to being more modern and sleek would be cool! :D
