Welcome to Forum Mafia 19: Forbidden Actions!

Game is over. Ended on Day 5

Mafia wins! This game was ranked.

The mastermind's behind this game are Gerry, Mori and myself.

The game will be played like any other Forum Mafia game, with one twist! Every player will be given an action pregame. If the action they are given is performed, they will be Killed from the game, with their forbidden action being shown afterward. More information will be given under Rules.

I. The Schedule:

72 Hour Days. 24 Hour Nights

  • If you don't submit actions by the deadline I will consider you taking no action.

II. The Set Up:

  • There is no "possible roles list". I promise not to get too crazy.

  • Mafia will have Day chat. And will know each other's Forbidden Actions

  • You will get an Alignment PM. Town or Mafia and your alignment will not change.

III. The Rules:

As explained earlier, there will be forbidden actions. YOU CANNOT SHARE YOUR FORBIDDEN ACTION. If found to, you will be mod killed. If you commit the forbidden action, you will be killed from the game. You may speculate forbidden actions of others within the game. If asked whether your forbidden action is something, you cannot confirm or deny. You can also not soft or hint as to what your forbidden action is.

We also will be strict about ISP and replacements. If you think for any reason you MAY have to be replaced, do not sign up. We also reserve the right to deny anyone from joining, if we believe you will troll, isp, sub.

IV. Votes:

  • Votes must be made in the format Vote: Playername. Bolding is done using the tags [b][/b].

  • I will not take any other type of vote. If I can't tell who you're voting, I won't take it.

MOD NOTE Mori will be giving out a token prize to a player from each alignment who the hosts determined played best.

Mods: Thanks for hosting. Interesting spin on the game. Don't do it again. However you did very good with the flavor. Sorry for getting mad at you guys after I got modkilled.

Regarding the whole modkilling thing. That was suboptimal as f***. I stand by it. For both alignments. It really ticked me off as scum because all our lynchbaits were basically getting dayvigged as opposed to lynched and sending the game to night. It's bad for town because the more you modkill people who were willing to take one for the team, the more you're closer to MYLO/LYLO. It was generally a bad strategy, and it genuinely pissed me off that you were all stupid. So, no. That episode I had after Pony got modkilled was not faux rage. I was sincerely mad. On top of that, work was extremely busy and I couldn't do anything to stop such stupidity. I didn't mean anything I said in my rant, but the anger was genuine.

Shears: I saved you for last because I wanna see more from you. I've played forum mafia on other sites and been scum. But never have I been so brutally torn apart by any player besides you. You outed my FA and I literally had no idea how to respond, which resulted in me getting MK'd. I respect the hell out of you. On top of that, you also deduced that Babylonia was scum when I hardcored scum theatred with her all game. You did a really good job. Initially, you had all 3 of us as town and I was in the scum chat like "well we should leave her alive as long as possible lol". Yeah, big f***ing mistake. Incredible turnaround. I don't know if you really liked this or not, but if you did, I'd recommend joining http://forum.mafiascum.net which is a forum mafia community. Fairly advanced players, and I believe you'd fit in very well, given that you tore apart people fairly advanced like myself and Babylonia. Again, well played. If you don't get Town MVP, it will be a travesty.

Ripple: Relentless. You wouldn't get off my a** all game and it really annoyed me. Regardless, good job getting me and Natalie when we scum theatred all game.

UltraAug: Obvious town again. Thanks for being very pleasant to be around as always. You messed up me and Natalie, but it's fine. I consider us very good scum players.

Denial: Obvtowned all game. I think for the most part you had fairly good reads, but Impoetic should've instantly been voted by you given that shears literally eviscerated me which I'll get to later.

Impoetic: You towntold the most out of our amazing trio. Hence why you won the LYLO and me and Natalie ended up getting modkilled. You even survived the whole way when you scumclaimed, and I pointed out it was a scumclaim only to distance.

Retti: I over-all you had a decent grasp of the game, but unfortunately you targeted the lynchbaits while you never wagoned me or Natalie. I don't mean anything I said in my rage (it wasn't faux-rage I was seriously mad, I'll explain why in a bit).

Transcend: I'm fairly happy with how I played. Given my forbidden action, I knew I was gonna have to scum claim at some point in the game. I got Pony and N1ed lynched and I think I really gave a good fake claim.

Babylonia: Win would've been impossible without you. You're an amazing player and I'm glad you were on my team. You were in charge of leading most of the mislynches. You manipulated people into modkilling people and sending it into MYLO. You did really good with your restriction. BTW I was never intending for you to get lynched. I wanted all 3 of us to be alive in end game. Strategically killing yourself was genius.

Kassidy: You did pretty good this game. I felt you were fairly obvious town, unfortunately, just a victim of circumstance.

XXNicoleXX: Sorry you got lynched. However, your lynch was not a scapegoat lynch for me. I thought you might have been the SK since our mafia team was only 3/15.

Damned: Solid town the whole game, like always. Only died due to a parity cop soft though lol.

Ideal: Good reads d1, I think you might've had a lot better luck if you didn't explode on the town. However, you did have a good grasp on the game.

Himiko: Obvtowned again, good job. You had a pretty neat role!

PonyLove: Personally, I felt you were obvious town. If I were town, I'd TR you here as well as I did here. Sorry you got forced to modkill yourself.

N1ed: I feel so horribly bad for you. I knew your restriction, I knew your role. I tunneled extremely hard on you because I knew you were the protective that couldn't claim. I'm sorry you were defenseless about the tunnel on you. BTW one final thing. I screamed at Impoetic and Natalie to speed blitz you in the scum skype chat. >:)

Also i had no idea how much work it takes to host one of these things. Gerry and Mori definitely did most of the work. We ended up getting up to page 51 in the google doc where we all worked on the actions and ideas. Also I don't mind the restriction of not being able to out townreads. Himiko actually did a really good job of playing around it if you read some of her posts like we were able to tell she hard townread pony. Also we used rng for all the actions that involved another person so it could have easily been a mafia role picked. We also switched shears and jeffs forbidden actions around.

i mean i kind of preferred the gamebreaking ones to the simple ones like "cannot edit posts" but altogether it was unpolished (by virtue of being an experimental setup) and there were a lot of unintended results that could (and did) affect the outcome in sort of unrelated ways i.e. what mist pointed out about exploiting the mechanics for extra mislynches.

Also just a lot of the actions being things people could do by accident, and then of course the inconsistency with the rules and the fact that two people accidentally did things that got them modkilled and affected the game (which perhaps means the rules were too harsh or not emphasized enough)

so overall I thought the game was pretty broken but was still a neat premise and the mods did well in many ways, too

I didn't say it was townsided. The point of the entire game was seeing how you'd get around your forbidden actions. Some were easier than others. Mafia had very hard forbidden actions too.

A lot of these FB were gamebreaking for town btw this wasn't that scumsided but don't say it was super townsided either.

and mist mentioned something I fervently believe about mafia in general; an essential part of the game is teamwork and getting town to cooperate with you -- something often overlooked in favor of pure reads/towntelling -- and as such, it's more often than not unfair to blame a single player when you lose & better to focus on what you could have done personally to change the outcome, or at least come closer to it.

I think that extends outside of mafia, too, but that's a bit of a digression on my part.

agree to disagree i guess. Nonetheless, I think you probably see why I would say mist is someone worth listening to about actual optimal play. Even if they hadn't done so much this game, that doesn't necessarily preclude their making valid points.

Like i understand if you interpreted their post as a personal attack but that's not how I saw it and I agree with denial that their posts about the game have been the most logical ones overall.

mist generally said the most correct things in this post-game chat

also sorry himiko, i liked her reactions and thought she was town. even though i literally said i knew she got better at faking them and even showed her a game where she faked it when she questioned it LOL

also, tbh, her role and her checking retti made me really think she was town cause it seemed kinda like a weak role and i thought last maf had a better role. if i knew mechs better i would've probably lynched her (knowing shes a cc) or like i said at least forced her to lynch and get us autowin that way

when we got to 4-way i kinda did think she was probably maf but meh, shears never voted and now i know why

All town pr debuffed due to forbidden actions. Not that much for the Retti beside that somebody else dies if kept alive.
