Ok so some of you may have seen that the Turkish military is staging a coup against the government RN.
Erdogan, the president of Turkey, is very very Pro-Muslim, and has been actively supporting Daesh (ISIS) for some time now. The government has been leaning towards a more islamic state like surrounding countries, and the people weren't having it. The military are taking it upon themselves to bring the government back to a seperation of church and state.
Why is this good/bad? Besides the obvious Islamic backlash (Daesh losing a stronghold, Turkey possibly turning into a warzone), this has some huge world implications. Turkey is part of NATO. For anyone who has taken a history class, you know that NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is a group of countries that gathered together after WW2. NATO has 28 members, including: Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Netherlands and the USA. (full list here http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/nato_countries.htm)
The opposing group that formed was the Warsaw Pact. While this was disbanded after the Cold War, NATO and Russia have still had tensions between them. With Turkey at war with itself, and Russia taking new land (Ukraine, Crimea), and rumors of NATO (particularly the US) placing troops closer and closer to Russia's borders, while Russia is flexing it's military.
TL;DR: Turkey is undergoing a coup. Current president of Turkey is pro Daesh (ISIS/ISIL). This has implications for the war on terror and also for NATO.
For those who are wondering: Streets are safe(except pro-government civilians marching around). 2700+ judges were fired from their posts(that is %36 of total number of judges), no one batted an eye because everyone was busy celebrating over defeating the coup. Erdogan is still calling people to streets for a week, he is still in Istanbul. They(Erdogan, PM) are speaking about bringing back the death penalty and reworking the gun laws to arm the citizens.
We seem safe for now, but it sure as hell won't be comfortable place to live in the near future.

Coup failed. Erdogan will be more powerful than ever.
He isn't pro-ISIL despite probably not doing much against them. Also Pro-Muslim is incorrect terminology. Erdogan leans towards Islamist ideology or political Islam. He blames the oppositional movement led by Fethullah Gülen , who lives in Pennsylvania, so should be interesting US/Turkish relations soon. Russia would have benefited from a successful coup, wonder if they had something to do with it.
I saw on CNN that Erdogan gave a speech saying the gov't is still in control. Also saw a lot of soldiers surrendering on (i think was) the Bosphorus bridge

Seems Erdogan wanted more power for president. Very authoritative guy, silencing media, blocking social media, having people "disposed of" from the military and the opposition.
Military tries to sloppily stop him, and they won't be able to. The people are on Erdogan's side. Sad day for Turkey.
I'm safe but my friends in the centre of city are reporting continious bombings and gunfire but according to government sided media sites(which are basically all of them) coup is already supressed.
Apparently a "minor" faction in military(which are ironically the ones Erdogan has not "purged" yet) is able to capture National Television, airports, Bosphorus bridges and National Intelligence Agency WITHOUT having support of any major ranked officers BUT they were not able to capture/arrest any of ministers, military officers - anyone whose name ACTUALLY matters.
It is a goddamn charade, Erdogan and ministers actually said their supporters to get down into streets and FIGHT against the army, Mosques are continiously rallying people against the army. A so called "coup" quickly turned into a Jihad in Erdogan's name - SURPRISINGLY QUICK.
They are saying they are all but supressed it. They control the media all too well, it is impossible to get any actual info. They will cover everything up, release some minor casualty report and soon Erdogan will get ABSOLUTE POWER over the country to "make sure no one ever tries this kind of thing again".
This is either stupidest coup ploy ever or a goddamn theatre play.In any way it will be us who is gonna get screwed over.
Remember Turkey, remember us, Big Brother is coming.
Turkish people have always been supportive of these coups
The military is not commanded by the PM. It acts mostly on its own to a vision of Atatürk, who wanted a secular Turkey
Nothing bad is going to happen. The Turkish military have already stated they have taken control of the entire state already.

Erdogan has fled Turkey in a privates Jet, tells his followers to attack military and fight in streets, and then requests asylum in Germany. What a scum bag.
Because of the tumultuous situation taking a turn in Turkey, it seems very likely to me that ISIS may feel that they can wrap their grimy tentacles around the country and absorb some of the loyalist troops. This could very likely going to be a boon to ISIS if the coup doesn't strike down the loyalists as soon as possible.
EDIT: Since PeePee just posted an update while I was typing, I'll say this:
If Islamic radicals are taking over Turkey then everything is fücked.

OK SO UPDATE -
No one is sure who is in control of the government, or if this is the secular military. People are very afraid that this could be an Islamic Leader, who is even more extreme than Edrogan, leading the coup. (Fethullah Gulen)
Basically, if this isn't the secular military, and if it's an Islamic Military, then Turkey, the Middle East, and even the World are about to change.
Most US operations in the Middle East begin in Turkey. With Turkey fully in Daesh control...
I'll try and update this thread as more news comes out. If you are in turkey please stay in doors and contact your local embassy, as Martial Law is in effect.
