"or it needs to be immune to jail kills." I think if something like that were to happen if there are multiple jailers and they decide to kill him there is a 50% chance or something that the prisoner retaliates and kills a jailer instead. This way during the day if they find one of the jailers dead the other jailer can claim and say who they jailed so town can lynch the prisoner.

But the jailers will know if the name of the person in the jail is not the person they chose? Or does it effectively guise as the jailed?

It either needs to be able to guise as the jailed (which would be difficult to do AND survive a lynch) or it needs to be immune to jail kills.

Make it so the role cannot be killed by the jailer on the second night and that it gets to see the name of the jailer so that in whisper setups he can tell his mafia partners who he is.

I like the idea of a Prisoner. It would be cool for the mafia to have a way to deal with jailers and the people they jail if it turns out they are about to jail one of the more important mafia PR.
