A summary of Ruruka made in a DR3 Trial rp by Kimura: "Because you are a manipulative bitch! You used me! And then you threw me aside like a useless doll after you took everything I had! You ruined my work, my school life, and everything traitor! We all know how good you are at faking your emotions! [...] "What do you mean, I was the one who sabotaged you?! Why would I even do something like that! I trusted you! You were my best friend! And you returned the favor by sabotaging me instead! I specifically told you where it was, and you took the wrong one knowing what I said!"
"Kyousuke Munakata chooses death..."
After all that has happened in the Future Foundation, I've changed for the better and the old Munakata has "died", metaphorically speaking. I'm entrusting Makoto Naegi with the world's future... I'm sure he'll do fine.
A Togami analysis from reddit(does not belong to me): "The best designed character would be Byakuya, whose characterization was accidentally brilliant. While he's obviously written as a second fiddle to Kyoko, he accidentally ends up being way better than Kyoko. Besides Makoto, he's the only person out of the DR1 survivors that never attempted to kill another classmate, despite being easily the most morally questionable character in DR1.
Whether this means he's really as incorruptible as Makoto or that his willpower/intelligence is just so great that he never had to put himself in the situation where he'd be tempted to turn on his classmates is not that important. Despite all of Kyoko's (and really, the writer) attempt to belittle him, the fact is he and Makoto are the only survivors in DR1 that can proudly say they never tried to kill another classmate. He wins Hina's trust in chapter 5, which is someone who was willing to kill herself to kill him. His leadership is so dominant that it forced Kyoko to frame Makoto to save herself.
He is the only person who did something meaningful against the Mastermind, by organizing the survivors to disassemble a Monokuma to try to learn its secrets. Such an act can easily be seen as attacking the headmaster and punishable by death, but he did it anyway, because this is really the only action that matters. From the DR1 cast's point of view, they were fighting the Mastermind who has control of these impossibly powerful death robots. As long as they can't defeat Monokuma's superior firepower, nothing else they do even matters. They absolutely have no knowledge of whatever restraint the Mastermind is under, and no expectation that the Mastermind wouldn't just say, "I changed my mind and will kill you all" even if they figured out every secret behind Hope's Peak Academy. Although his effort was ultimately futile doesn't change the fact that he had the right idea.
Byakuya acts like how you'd expect an intelligent person without plot armor would do. He's never been implicated in any crime other than chapter 2 where he purposely framed himself for his twisted reasons. This means he knows how to keep his distance and avoid getting into trouble.
He is even more socially isolated than Kyoko initially, but unlike Kyoko he actually gets that nobody trusts him. That's why when Hina slapped him he just took it instead of complaining because he knows he's got no friends other than Toko to back him up.
When Sakura asked him to meet privately he flat out refused to go, and that's a perfectly normal reaction when facing the Ultimate Martial Artist. Even Hina didn't know Sakura well enough to be able to tell that the suicide note was forged, so why should Byakuya have any reason to believe Sakura wouldn't try to kill him? Sure, a character with plot armor will say 'let's talk to the Ultimate Martial Artist who can easily kill me in one hit because we'll surely work something out', but Byakuya doesn't know he has it. From his point of view, it's entirely possible Sakura could kill him and then not even face a class trial because she's a traitor hired by the Mastermind, and it's not like he finds solace if Sakura dies on a class trial after killing him. He is indeed the Distressed Dude and pretty much everything he does is avoiding confrontation so he wouldn't get killed. Yes, he's too afraid to die to ever reach a solution if Sakura didn't die, but again there's no reason from his point of view to believe a solution exists. Without the assurance of plot armor, Byakuya is perfectly fine to settle with 'just surviving', and there's nothing wrong for keeping your goals modest if you don't know that you can't possibly die.
Byakuya also scolded Toko and Hiro for meeting up with Sakura instead of just ignoring her, since he assumed they'd die in such an encounter. I don't know if that means he cares for others or he's only looking out for those who don't hate his guts, but he still gets the job done as a leader. I don't think he's incapable of understanding trust. For example, he deduced that Hina could've killed Sakura by handing her a bottle of poison because Hina is the only person Sakura trusted enough to not notice the difference. Although this isn't what happened, this is sound logic. I think he understands how trust works but he literally trusts nobody except Toko."
Another Togami analysis(yet again, it does not belong to me):"Upvoted for truth about Byakuya, plus he gets arguably the most dangerous person in terms of "talent" and instability to cooperate with him and become his hands in several occasions, while keeping his distance and his ideas - flawed as they could be - to himself. He ensured most wouldn't associate with him, and he, in turn, strived to keep his independence from the group until almost the end. There are at least two instances in-game in which he shows a North Pole-style concern for Touko/Syo but are easily forgotten amid the wave of arrogance he displays. also, he never insults with a lie: all his insults are based on fact/factoids about his classmates, he calls them as he sees them, flaws included. Him being a Distressed Dude was actually interesting as a play on guy-girl hero/victim relationships, and also showed how his personality led to isolation (basically nobody from his branch is shown to care to rescue him, it was Touko and Komaru) He's still a lone wolf, but DRAE is teaching him the lesson that would blossom fully at the end of SDR2. It's not like Dr1's Byakuya to have followed someone like MAkoto, and in DR3, he even shows some condescendance towards Hagakure. He evolved and changed a great big deal."
