Noavi kick day (9th May)

about 5 years

This is a proposition to the mod team that I and hopefully a few others, will be dedicating the day to kicking noavis from games, plus it will be my EM birthday.

Noavis afk during the game and have no sympathy for players with avatars, the times I've had to sit during the night to wait to see if the noavis veg is beyond belief.

Noavis can avoid a kicking from simply getting an avatar. It's a simple rule, noavi = no game. If people wish to extend this for a greater period then I see no fault in that. I try and give them a chance when I host but they go afk in pregame. But for this entire day, whilst I have the rainbow text on, all noavis in my games will be instantly kicked.

If you are a noavi reading this. Go here https://epicmafia.com/user/edit otherwise don't complain about it on the day.

Hugs and Kisses all.

Ted "Great pro here" Tonate.

I will be kicking noavis from games on this day.

While new users are definitely more likely to veg for sure I feel there's confirmation bias here that also plays into it.

Responding paragraph by paragraph here;

Yeah the EU changes changed the EM playing field a lot and the few months with no games going on were depressing, it's hard to tell how big the scope of an unwelcoming community is towards potentially new users to the community, but this attitude surely isn't helping.

Are you sure it's 85% of the time? It doesn't make any difference if they have an avatar or not, just that when they have an avatar it's harder to pick out they're new. We say "noavis" for accounts with no avatars but in reality we are talking about new users here who, as I described, aren't aware about the mechanics of the site. And no, I'm not upset if someone vegges personally as someone who hosts most of her games, but I can understand if people are annoyed. And if that's the case I hope you also kick users who are known for vegging/sui'ing a lot as well, if that's your issue.

And yeah it's possible to... change your mind about policying? I used to policy years ago and was open to talking about it in a thread about this in the past. https://epicmafia.com/topic/81345 This has always been an ongoing discussion in the community it's just not been as prominent at times. The thread is a good read btw even if I'd change my argument in some ways than what I did 2 and a half years ago.

If they don't like the kicks and policies and don't have a chance to learn the game there's a high chance they're just not gonna bother with the site at the end of the day lol. You can kick whoever you want from your games since they're yours I just feel it's a silly idea.

The community is not shrinking, it shrunk due to EU changes and site closing down for some time. There are many new faces on this website that have gotten an avatar on their own accord without guidance from people in game.
.

This is very true. I don't think anything has hurt the site as much as the EU ban did, which was not fixed for at least a month (which imo, shows how much care the site is given). I don't think the site has still bounced back from that.

Not going to take me little census as gospel, but if it's any indication, our European userbase is very tiny. https://www.strawpoll.me/17419699/r I feel as though we had much more pre-Europe ban.

I still hate policying lmao but you're at least one of the users who try to reach out to newer members, there are attitudes that have been a lot more negative in recent years than what you do, which is my biggest issue

I don't think that it's going to make any long term damage to the site just that "they know what they're doing wrong on pg 1 is a silly explanation when they're mostly new users

The community is not shrinking, it shrunk due to EU changes and site closing down for some time. There are many new faces on this website that have gotten an avatar on their own accord without guidance from people in game.

The fact of the matter is when there is a noavi in game, 85% of the time they will veg before D1 has even started, now if this was main, you'd be pretty upset too, after spending time creating a game, waiting for it to fill, only for the player to veg or not participate in the game at all.

Most people that are disliking this post have at some point in the past jumped on the policy bandwagon without a care in the world because they wanted the day to end. Now it's only just recently that people are showing care for noavis are banding alongside players with avatars that they have policied in the past before.

As I said before, if they don't like the kicks and the D1 policies, go to main. Because 9th May will be a lot tougher for them when I and others that support this are hosting.

I always explain what policy is, and explain how to get an avatar if they ask. Often, they will say 'I'll do it later,' and then join the next game without an avatar and are surprised when they get policied again. I wish Lucid would make more steps towards A. Making the site more intuitive to use (as to prevent vegs and whatnot) and B. Make it easier to get an avatar (such as allowing users to change avatars via their profile like many sites have, or even changing them in-game).

I don't think Ted's cheeky one-day-only suggestion will cause any long term damage to the site.

The issue here is that most noavis are actually new users to the site, I don't think that kicking them out of the blue is going to help them figure out how to get an avatar; all it does is let them know that they are not welcomed in that lobby and they are not welcomed by you.

policies are always silly because, new users don't really know how 1. the site or 2. the community works and by using them as fodder to pick on instead of welcoming them more to the community and giving them time to figure out how the site works ultimately deters some users from using the site that otherwise could have been good additions to the community

nothing wrong with directing them to uploading avatars but this entire topic just seems petty towards new users because there's a way to see that they're new to the game. Unsurprisingly new users are going to be more likely to mess up, veg, leave games, etc. but sandbox's hellbent years long crusade against noavis have always been a bit preposterous for a community that is also concerned with the community shrinking.

Majority of noavis are insensitive and don't care for the game. At least the ones that get an avatar show some dedication to playing the game and remaining as part of the community, and I led a vote on you whilst you were sympathizing with the noavis because I saw 3/4 of them showed no interest in getting an avatar, that it was pointless even trying to help them when they can't even help themselves.

If they don't like the policies and the kicking, they know what to do, if they don't, they stick with main or find a locked game that they enjoy canoodling in.

9th of May, they have their time to decide.

90% of the time people don't explain the policy or tell them to get an avatar though. most of the times you do tell them, they get them

Not all no avis are like that. If you just took the time to ping them, link them to the edit page and explained calmly that they need to get an avatar and why, there is an 89% chance they will have an avatar by the end of that day. How do I know? Because I do this rather than yelling at them and they do get avatars after I tell them how to. Meanwhile ypu lead bw lynches on me for helping them get an avatar calling me a no avi lover and target me in game for it and madr dumb posts in retaliation when u think its not enough. Trolls wi only be rewarded with more trolling. Kindness will be met with friendship.

During the May of 9th I will be hosting an alternative event: be a noavi for a day and walk a mile in their shoes

So if I were to be a noavi for the day. I'd join a game, no talk to anyone, and then veg during the night. Seems boring.
