Hey guys.. it's finally that time of the year. All entries for the 40 EUROPEAN countries battling it out to win Eurovision 2019... and Australia are out!
For those of you who aren't familiar with what Eurovision is...
It is the most anticipated and best television event of the year!! 41 countries compete with a musical entry and battle it out to get your votes! This is a competition and tradition that has taken place every year since 1956!!! The winning country then gets to host the next years Eurovision!
Here's what we know so far about Eurovision 2019:
The theme is 'Dare To Dream'
It is taking place in Tel Aviv (3rd time in Israel after 1979 & 1999)
The Semi-Finals will take place on the 14th & 16th of May
The Grand Final will take place on the 18th of May
41 countries will compete
Bulgaria will not compete due to limited financial ability
Ukraine will not compete as they are still sore that Russia is still
competing
The host country Israel as well as the Big 5: France, Germany, Italy,
Spain and the United Kingdom will get automatic spots in the Grand
Final
How does the voting work:
Since 2016 there has been a new positional voting system in place
Each country awards two sets of 12, 10, 8-1 points to to their 10
favourite songs
One from their professional jury and the other from televoting
Other random points:
The voting is my favourite part of the show tbh although the new
voting system is less suspenseful
Just because the 'Big 5' contribute a lot of money I don't believe
they should get automatic entry into the Grand Final - this is a song
competition not a 'who can give the most money'
Lots of good songs get knocked out of the semi-finals as the 'Big 5' and host country take up 6 additional spaces
