"The type of people who use Epicmafia aren't the type of people to have complex and nuanced discussions with" is the official mod reason for locking that thread. REALLY funny meme man, but is it a sincere reason to lock a thread that did have complex, nuanced discussion going on?
I think Bebop saw a large thread about a serious topic and assumed there was harassment or vitriol going on, and there really wasn't - especially in the last few pages. We were having a perfectly civil conversation about this complex topic, complete with links to sources and all. I don't know why the mod team is so against debates, especially ones that are going well and are giving the site activity. But for real, Ally showed up to end this discussion on the lobby wall and said to make a topic about it instead, that happened, and then the topic got locked.
I understand if there's insults being flung left and right and it's a shitshow, but that just wasn't the case here. The only real insults there were the ones directed at me like "childfucker", and while I certainly resent those insults, they come from a place of emotion and not malice and I can at least understand the anger behind them. No one was upset by any insults, is my point, and there were only a few scattered across the thread.
So can a representative of the team explain to me what was so bad about that debate that mod action had to be taken? Like I get the "can't talk about complex issues on EM" meme, but it's just a meme, not a justification for ending discussions.
