Hello everyone! I would like to ask the people who are interested in this event to participate and contribute as much as possible.

In order for 2 new roles to be added to em, the community has to work together to refine the ideas that are going to be mentioned below. We have to collectively select 2 of the best ideas and make sure their version is the best one possible. The next step would be to come up with some sort of artwork for the selected roles. Lucid mentioned something about rewarding the users behind the artwork that would get selected in the end for those 2 roles.

Jack the Ripper (originally Hypocrite)

  • Jack the Ripper hates anyone who kills.
  • Jack the Ripper only wins when the game ends and all murderers are dead.
  • If Jack the Ripper receives a gun or knife and kills someone with it, he will not consider himself a murderer.
  • To Jack the Ripper, murderers are killing roles or any other player that has successfully eliminated someone else (shot, stabbed, blown up, etc.)
  • If a player survives one of these actions, Jack the Ripper will not consider the attacker a murderer. (~Jennings)

Cat Lady

  • Chooses one player every night. The player is instantly alerted that a cat is at their door. They have two options: Kill the cat, and let it go. If you kill the cat, you are roleblocked and the Cat Lady doesn't know who was visited. If you let it go, the Cat Lady learns your role.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Her)

Robinhood

  • Visits two people, taking all items from the first and giving them to the second (cannot visit self either way)
  • Action fails if trying to steal from a mafia
  • Sided with the village (~Torreador)

Vice President

  • If the president dies, takes their place
  • All townies immediately receive a message of their new president
  • Attends mafia meetings, and makes them anonymous
  • Cannot win if they are the vice president (~Alyssa)

Gossiper

  • Chooses one person every night.
  • Will see some whispers this person receives/makes.
  • Gossiper's action does not count as a visit.
  • Sided with the mafia. (~Soluciones)

(revising) the Seer

  • Knows all mafia from the beginning of the game.
  • If lynched at the end of the game, the last mafia can guess who the Seer is for autowin.
  • If the Seer dies, they will appear as a random (non-mafia) role in the setup and their will will always be blank. If dead, the mafia can still attempt a guess to the Seer's identity at the end of the game.
  • If there are multiple Seers in a game, only one Seer will know the mafia at any given time.
  • If there are two mafias and multiple Seers, the knowledge of the mafias will be split between them.
  • Sided with the village. (~Shwartz99)

Whistleblower

  • Once per game can force someone to vote someone else. Vote cannot be OT'D if it is a hammer. Sided with maf (Will create more tension in selfing/hammering based setups (~Moldyches)

Soldier

  • If they are the last man standing against a single mafia or third party, the village wins.
  • Sided with the village. (~XFire)

PowerTown

  • Each night chooses a power role from the options provided to him. (the mods should determine the list)
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the village

PowerMafia

  • Each night chooses a mafia role from the list.
  • Night meeting goes accordingly
  • Sided with the mafia

Oh I remember

There's a bunch of terms which should be added into the "Vocab" function in games which would be very helpful for newer users. Just to name a few: "AtE, PoE, Pocket(ed/ing)/Whiteknight(ed/ing), Chainsaw(ed/ing), TR, SR, Meteor, Lynch, Guilty". There are probably a ton more that I'm forgetting lol. Wouldn't hurt to put definitions for some of the rule abbreviations in-game too, such as GT, OGI, CM, GRS, ISP, ERB, HC, EA, OPI, IC

Ol Mono got back from the Role Mines, I've been working all day, oof my back is killing me, I came up with two maf roles for you, sir

Redcoat/Sureshot
-Starts with a musket
-Can choose to load and clean musket during the day
-The musket will be ready to use the next day
-The musket’s shot can pass through vests
-Sided with the mafia

Nutritionist
-Once a game, can corrupt the voting lists the following day
-The voting lists’ names and pictures will be randomly replaced by healthy food
-This includes all logs, such as the governor’s list, a gun’s list, a chef’s list, a jailer’s list, etc.
-Can complete day actions, but identities in lists are obscured and randomized
-Sided with the mafia

To explain with the second one because I explained it weirdly I think, the premise is that they obscure and ruin the day action voting logs. I felt like something like this could be viable if there's a set up with gov or sheriff having an edge on the maf. You could activate the power and, they can still try to do their day actions, but it's essentially like Russian Roulette with what they'd pick. A day action obfuscation could be fun but at the same time IDK how much of a coding nightmare that would be.

I made it food themed because in my head it sounded funny. But it being food-themed isn't make-or-break. It just sounds funny to select 'Grapes' 'Apples' or 'Bannas' instead of 'shayneismyname' 'Giga13 or 'DarkB.' Har har

Bug: Day doesnt end when seer is in the setup and gun is in play

oh yes i remember a bug:

if a game is no reveal or reveal alignment, the user who dies still uses unique death messages to the role they have, basically making no reveal/reveal alignment useless

ie. if i was maf and i died in a no reveal setup, it might show the message that goes something like: "Nobody wanted the black clothes that belonged to Shwartz99."

I'm gonna go bug hunting!

A little bug, but basically on setup pages, sometimes it won't show 5 people on it if a user deletes their account. It shows less. Example: https://epicmafia.com/setup/969460 only shows 4 people instead of the 5 it should

Lucid, for the wordsmith assets, there are only 2 images and 2 audio files. The tiles aren't images, and there isn't much need for a background. As for the audio files, one is a kind of a ping, so you can reuse the ping sound and the other is when you place 7 tiles, which is not necessary (but you can probably find some kind of small victory sound free somewhere)

I like this idea. Hypothetically, editing a setup in the middle of a round might lead to issues, however. Perhaps an option to go back to the setup creator to change things, but giving the setup post-changes a different setup ID would solve this issue.

what i can do is allow for setups to have an unactivated state, in which, after it's activated, it cannot be edited, but only then will statistics be tracked, can be made competitive, etc.

In terms of lobbies things are fine right now, imo. There are currently not enough users active on a regular basis for more than one lobby to thrive. Splitting Main Lobby would probably just make both of the new lobbies less populated and make it harder to get frequent games going.

I think expanding the mentor program and getting people to join it (maybe through some type of incentive for mentors and mentees) might be a good way to get people to try playing mafia more again. It helps new users try and get better and may get them to enjoy playing the game more.

Fixing problems like excessive hateful comments and harassment by adding harsher penalties, especially in red heart or unranked games where most newer players play, might get people to stop shying away from mafia games or Epicmafia in general, as sometimes toxicity causes people to not want to play--especially new people. Imagine coming to a new games website only for people to be extremely rude to you in the first few games. Why would you want to come back?

I don't have much to say right now, but these are just a couple of ideas. I love the community giving their ideas, it's wonderful to see and to have a good discussion about site happenings.

Eh, then people would just end up playing with other people who don't know how to play, and less games in beginner would actually work with people vegging, no?
