But having a bad childhood can really affect who you are as an adult and a teen. It's like having suicidal depression. You can say you understand, sum it up into a few words, but you'll never know how it truly affects someone until you go through it yourself.

Having a bad childhood doesn't justify someone's heinous actions but it definitely helps to explain why they might have thought what they did was fine

Ideally that would help prevent events like those he participated in but it's impossible to intervene in everyone's life at the point that they would be most impacted
