How do you guys feel about chromebooks?? I have a second hand 2012 MacBook Pro right now but I think it's too slow to take notes in class or anything so I was considering getting a cheap chromebook for notes, em, studying etc but still holding on to the Mac if I need to use external programs.
Or is this all stupid and I should just get new computer altogether?? I just feel like I can't afford a very good one rn
So this computer is the slowest piece of sht i've ever owned in my life. It crashes / doesn't respond very quickly and factory reset did nothing help me
And Schwartz I'm glad you think so! I ended up getting a refurbished one with a 256 SSD and i7 processor instead and I'm hoping it'll be better plus it was the same price so wish me luck
Chromebooks can work if you're only going to use it with Google Drive and the internet (like what Angie said). It works quite well with EpicMafia.
If you do get one, I'd caution you not to download too many things or to get too many extensions - they make Chromebooks extremely slow. Considering you said you would use your Mac for programs anyways, this shouldn't be much of a problem.
I would try to make the MacBook Pro run better by fixing it up (it's only 5 years old, I'm running a 10-year-old Dell Latitude D630 on Windows 7), or better yet, sell it, and buy a cheap PC. You can find old, used PCs which are 64-bit and run well for a lot cheaper than you'd expect.
As slond stated before though, don't buy another Mac. They are overpriced and you can really do anything they can do on a PC.
Chromebooks are used by businesses and schools because they are cheap and networked based. For personal use, you probably want something a little more powerful and versatile.
Yeah I'm basically against chromebooks now because I brought it up in a couple of different places and Angie has really only been the only good review of them (ily angie)
tbh im considering getting one used bc they're so pricey. Also looking at some Asus and a Dell Inspirator or smth also because I think im leaning towards a PC now
or just get a tablet and get one of those cases with a bluetooth keyboard if you dont like typing on a touch screen. Plus its a lot easier to draw diagrams and all that jazz on a tablet than a computer
plus tablets are hella compact and light and charged with a micro usb so you don't need to bring a laptop charger
deletedover 7 years
last year, my school assigned us (don't quote me on the exact kind){these} for schoolwork and whatnot.
and lemme tell you
half the time they were great
and half the time they lagged to sh!t
if you want to buy one (of this kind) just for notes/studying/em, that sort of thing, that would be great for you as long as you have the patience to wait for your chromebook to
load
every
single
thing.
the battery can run for most of the day assuming you don't run it in inverse or something
due to stupidity (and the fact i never bothered to ask) i have no idea what the chromebook is actually fycking called

if you want to buy a cheap chromebook i recommend this one as long as you have a decent amount of patience with it
Chromebooks are only useful over the Internet. Of course, your files will all be saved to Google Drive, and expect to get adept at using Chrome addons. You can't download anything applications except for Google addons, so expect everything to be web-based. This means no Microsoft Office (use Google Docs / Slides / Spreadsheets instead), no Skype (use the web), and no Adobe products (rip photoshop; read all pdfs on Chrome which is a bit of a pain, especially if you're pirating pdf textbooks which utilize bookmarks).
While using a Chromebook, you have to remember it's no laptop. It's not meant to be high-quality; it's just meant to do it's job. The resolution is poor, and it's slow. However, it's durable, fairly light, small, and can do notes effectively.
I use a Samsung Notebook 9 which attributes 1.9 pounds, full HD display, and i5 processor, so in my case there's no reason to use a Chromebook. I got mine for free, but the retail price can reach over $1000. Chromebooks are a much cheaper alternative that I'd suggest until you could either raise money or find an opportunity to get a much better laptop.
chromebooks are great if you do most of your work on google drive or if you store your notes/documents on the cloud! they're fast, small, portable and super easy to use. the downside is if your classes require a lot of external programs, it's really really unuseful tbh
I have a mac and a chromebook, and i generally take my chromebooks to classes/to study. since i take all of my notes on google docs, it really works for me personally =)
