this setup was beautiful in its simplicity, and survived a large sample proving its balance. much like any popular setup the average result is a 50/50 in a 3 way with 1 clear. can you enlighten me?
Well true, but in a world where 13 year olds hang themselves, sometimes it does you some good to focus on something completely unimportant and irrelevant.
i played mafia in real life with a group of friends, or more like acquaintances i guess. i was given mafia, and naturally since i was the best player in the room, i relentlessly bussed my partners to distance myself from them. we wound up losing but it was obviously the best strategy and now my friends hate me for ruining the game??? please help.

"Finally." We say to ourselves with relief in a table that never fills, knowing we won't have to explain the game to a new player.
You know, looking back, that whole competitive lobby thing sure was handled stupidly
Who had the idea that a player who had played 10,000 games and lost 6,000 was an elite compared to a fresh player

what if competitive mafia had its own lobby, but instead of being a dead husk inhabited by 42% w/r players with 10,000 games played it was just the default lobby
Trying to incept a capable competitive mindset into new traffic simply isn't possible without changing a lot of the code.
Taking GS out of FP would allow people freedom to claim as scum. Anything to break up the current meta is a step in the right direction.
The problem is people go from 7p setups to 8p setups. You can't learn how to scumhunt with people that refuse to play rationally. If you only have pointfarms and ml's, no one has to improve to be successful consistently.
There needs to be a baseline standard of play that people are expected to meet in comp, or you're just going to keep the redundant shitshow we have now. Short of an exodus to the comp lobby we'd needs mods to enforce it, and the refusal/disinterest will continue to play out until we get bored and stop coming here.
Actually I will read and respond to this, f it.
You're right about some things but wrong about others.
New traffic should be advertised and then allowed to dive into a ranked competitive styled setup on their first game if they so choose. That is all it takes.
FP/GS are awful and not mafia but a lot of people want to do that crap and that generates traffic and thus revenue, so it makes business sense.
There are some quality 7 player dawn start setups without joke roles.

I'm not going to read this but creating a competitive environment is incredibly simple and I've made stupidly long threads trying to make it happen to no avail.
Step One: Add a filter that differentiates between ranked and unranked games in main lobby. Make ranked the default.
Step Two: Remove the unranked games requirement. It is there to prevent ABC, a now unbanned player, from entering the competition. It never stopped him, but it stops tons of new traffic from becoming competitive players eventually
That is all it takes. It doesn't hurt traffic, it doesn't hurt anything.
But Lucid doesn't care to do it, so it won't happen.
