The Price is Right

over 7 years

America’s #1 game show is coming to Sandbox! Play along! Bid on terrific prizes! Prove you are the smartest in the whole forum! You, too can win a fortune in fake prizes… if the Price is Right!

Format

1) Contestants’ Row

  • Four players get to play. A prize is shown. Each player gets to make one bid as to what they think it costs. Whomever bids closest to the actual retail price without going over wins the prize and gets to play a pricing game. If you’ve never seen the show before, here's an example.

2) Pricing game

  • The winner of Contestants Row gets to play a game where they can win bigger prizes. Each pricing game is different, so rules will be explained when we get to it.

  • After the pricing game, a new player is called to contestant’s row and the process repeats. After three pricing games, the two biggest winners compete in the showcase round.

3) Showcases

  • The two biggest winners play. Each player gets a showcase filled with prizes to bid on. The person who bids closest to the price of their own showcase without going over wins their showcase. Here’s an example.

Rules:

  • 24 hour time limit for players. In Contestants Row, you have 24 hours after the previous bidder to make your bid. I’ll PM you when you are called on down the first time.

  • You're allowed one missed deadline. Miss your deadline in Contestants’s Row and your turn is skipped; miss twice and we’ll get a replacement player to move the game along. Other situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. (PM me if you're going to be gone so I can get an extended deadline/sub player.)

  • Prices are in US dollars. Our friends outside the US may use currency converters to help them out if they need them. (No googling the prices of prizes—that would be unfair.)

  • Audience participation is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED! Feel free to shout out suggestions in the thread.

He says minus. Take away the plus sign, please!

Let's check the solution. What is the price of the computer?

$1,499. Now, if I'm doing the math correctly, that means if the treadmill is $499, you're a winner. What is the price of the treadmill?

*buzz*

Noooooo..... I'm sorry, it was a fancy treadmill. Bad luck, Jeff, but thanks for playing.

computer minus $1000 equals treadmill

And the actual retail price of those sunglasses is... $559!

Jeff is the winner! What are you going to do with $115 sunglasses? I don't know, but hopefully you can make a use for them. But let's keep the winning going, shall we? Take a look at what you'll be playing for!

A cool new computer and a wonderful treadmill!

First, this iMac comes with an LED backlit display, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive!

And, sculpt your body with this ProForm Compact treadmill, which comes with a 7 inch HD touchscreen and 34 built-in workout programs. Makes a perfect clothes rack for those of you who think driving down the street to buy beer is exercise!

Jeff, you’re going to play Do the Math. Not only are you playing for the computer and the treadmill, you're also playing for a fat wad of cash! And how much cash is it today?

A thousand dollars. Now, these prizes make a mathematical equation. There’s a $1000 difference between the price of the computer and the price of the treadmill. To win, all you need to do is finish the equation.

Is it “’Computer’ PLUS $1000 equals ‘Treadmill’”?

Or should it be “’Computer’ MINUS $1000 equals ‘Treadmill’”?

Tell us correctly and you’ll win it all!

Steph has set a price of $49 for the headphones, $506 for the gumball machine, and $9073 for the trip. I ask you... is she a winner?

*buzz*

Bad luck. Well, don't feel too bad. You still have that TV you won earl-- hey, where'd it go?

Hey, Mr. Vivacious Voice, we need another player! Who do you have for us?

It's gonna be BaneofMafia! COME ON DOWN!

*Bane runs down the aisle, leaving the worst-disguised TV ever at his seat*

Hmm. Bane, I get the feeling that security will be speaking to you after the show. In the meantime, take your spot at the spot that Steph left you at the green podium. You'll be bidding on THIS!

It’s a stylish set of sunglasses!

These four pairs of Proof sunglasses are handmade from sustainably sourced wood and offer 100% protection of UVA/UVB rays. Each pair comes with a wood box and a microfiber pouch. You’ll be able to make your followers on Instagram SO JEALOUS!

Bane, you're new to the row, so we start with you. What do you bid on the sunglasses?

Thank you, Prize Guy! You can win all three prizes playing Make Your Move!

There are two numbers in the price of the headphones. There are three numbers in the price of the gumball machine. And there are four numbers in the price of the trip. The prices of these prizes are on this board, with no numbers overlapping.

Your task is to tell us which numbers correspond to which prices. Place the red slider under the price of the headphones, put the yellow slider under the price of the gumball machine, and the green slider under the price of the trip. Each number is used once and only once, and the prices do not overlap. If you’re right, you win all three prizes. Steph, Make your move!

Steph, I have not one, not two, but three prizes I want you to win. Won’t you tell us about them, Mr. Announcerman?

Sure will, John! First, a handy pair of waterproof bluetooth headphones!

You can use these to listen to your favorite tunes in the shower. Or the beach. Or a Jacuzzi. Wherever you like, really. Ever wondered what Kendrick Lamar sounds like at the bottom of a swimming pool? Now you can find out!

Moving right along, how about a colorful gumball machine!

Unleash your inner kid again with this gumball machine! Red and green LEDs light up your gumball’s path as it travels down a spiral ramp. This machine stands five feet tall and holds over 3,000 gumballs. Your inner five-year-old will never be more pleased!

And finally, it's a wonderful trip to Argentina!

You and a guest will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to Iguazú Falls, Argentina for a six night stay at the Sheraton Iguazú Resort and Spa! You’ll enjoy the wonderful scenery and visit some of the largest waterfalls in the world, including the majestic Iguazú Falls! And we’ve included a rental car!
