Out of the first five presidents of the United States, John Adams was the only one to not own any slaves. He said in a letter to Robert Evans: "I have, through my whole life, held the practice of slavery in such abhorrence, that I have never owned a negro or any other slave, though I have lived for many years in times, when the practice was not disgraceful"

He is also the only one of the first five to only be elected to serve for one term. His loss in the 1800 election was most likely due to disorganization within his own party due to Alexander Hamilton, one of the leaders of the Federalist party actively sabotaging him, and George Washington, another leader of the Federalist party, dying in 1799.

He was also the only one of the first five presidents to be EXTREMELY obese. By the time of his vice presidency, he weighed over 800 pounds.¹ He stated once that the title of the presidency should come with a prestigious, grandiose title like "His High Mightiness, the President of the United States and Protector of Their Liberties." Due to his stance on this subject, and the fact that he weighed over 1000 pounds by the time of his death, he was referred to as "His Rotundity."
