If you mean the 4 digit (well, 4 digits unless you somehow lose so much it goes to sub 1000) number, then it's an ELO system calculated based on the winrates of other people that you win against and lose against. If you lose against 2 mafia that have bad rank , you'll lose a lot of rank, but if you have low rank and beat a town full of high ranked players you get a lot of rank. It generally hovers around 1100-1200 most of the time unless you go on a lucky win streak
