Hello everyone, tigermom here to discuss polygamy. By definition, polygamy (from Late Greek πολυγαμία, polygamía, "state of marriage to many spouses") involves marriage with more than one spouse.

Terminology useful for the discussion:

Polygamy - the act of having multiple spouses

Polyamory - not to be mixed up with polygamy. The main difference between polygamy and polyamory is that polygamy means 1 person has multiple spouses while polyamory signifies a relationship where 3+ partners are all involved with each other.

Polygyny - a man has multiple wives.

Polyandry - a woman has multiple husbands.

What is your opinion on this? Do you think polygamy should be legalized in Western society? Should polygamy be banned in most of Africa and the Middle East? Does polygamy undermine Western virtues?

Just because they aren't allowed to divorce doesn't mean they have healthy marriages :)

those are fake marriages that end in divorce, the ones between pious religious people before god are the ones that last : )

Marriage is totally an idea from the state.

thats true but, now that the idea is already in our collective consciousness, we can take it for ourselves and potentially make it something unrelated to the state

It is too much work to maintain a relationship let alone two.
