I don't think it'll be as automatic as people suspect.
Say you challenge someone, they claim cop with reports and act super towny. If you lynch them, mafia kills gladiator and town loses two PRs. But if you lynch gladiator, cop can be saved and give more reports.
It's quite possible for gladiator's plans to backfire and make himself the most viable lynch, especially if there's an identical mafia role in the setup (sandbox).
What if only votes on you or your target count while others don't? So the town doesn't know that a duel is going on and you can't just say "oh i'm gladiator pls kill the scum high fos on golbolco."
You make the challenge at night and your target gets a system message stating "epicanova has challenged you to a duel tomorrow!" - that way your target can prepare to cc if they're scum.
If gladiator dies during that night, town will be forced to lynch their target, so it's suboptimal to kill someone who challenges you.
Also if both players die, gladiator acts like secretary and disables voting for the day.
This already happens when mafia ccs any role, which in this case mafia is basically claiming gladiator. I don't see a difference.

Gladiator
- during the day, picks 2 people to fight to the death. town is notified during the day, like a gun
- the next night, both players attend a meeting (and still have actions) and both pick which one of them should die, and gladiator can call another fight the next day
- if they cant decide and both vote eachother, theres a 50/50 chance, and gladiator can call another fight the next day
- if one of them dies during the day after gladiator has started the fight, the other dies immediately, and gladiator can not call another fight due to extreme violence
Isn't that just a more likely to win version of warlock and doesn't that also allow any game with that 3rd party role to be controlled by said third party
-3rd Party -Everynight can choose two players to duel each other. -Picks who they think should win -The next day, town has to vote between those two, in addition to regular lynching. -Wins if correctly guesses who wins 2-3 times
Also, the mafia role should be called a Fencer rather than a Challenger, keeping in line with how many of the Mafia roles practice leisurely pursuits that are associated with the upper crust of society, while a Gladiator is just a slave battling for amusement.
If it was added as a town role the gladiator would immediately claim gladiator and the other person would be lynched.
If it was added as mafia, the mafia would never use it because they have at least a 50% chance of losing a member. I say at least 50 because the chosen person could very well be able to clear himself.
Interesting idea. To break it down a little bit, I imagine that the purpose of this role is to corner someone you have high suspicion on into getting lynched. If one of these players is shot/bombed during the day, does the gladiator match end?
