Damn that's true. I forgot what site we're on lmfao so yeah nvm wishlists are probs best since they don't reveal addys.

I mean okay what I wrote was based on the idea of people getting each other's addresses but if we're doing digital/amazon stuff then what you could do is confirm that gifts have been chose but maybe not purchased by the 15th and confirm that everyone is still participating. If someone doesn't get back to you then reassign their secret santa to the person they were supposed to gift and then after that's taken care of people should place their orders. It's not foolproof but I don't think there's anyway to 100% prevent people from mooching/not gifting or to assure that everyone will get a gift. Secret Santa is more an honor code thing than anything. There's probably a better way, this is just a suggestion.

Ok so just to be clear, we can still make amazon wishlists if we are going with the first idea, and if you don't live in the US then you can request either a steam game or EM tokens or some other digital thing that you can think of (maybe gift cards?) unless there is someone else in your country able to buy something for you.

Or if we go the other idea then you can just share your address and receive a gift regardless of how it was bought. If you KNOW you want a digital gift (this goes for anyone in any country) then there is no need for you to share your address. Hope this makes sense

and then we made a thread where participants would post their interests (i guess people could post wishlists but that kinda takes the fun and thoughtfulness out of it a bit). we always had a problem with unreliable people so i would say to ask for confirmation of gift (meaning they've at least chosen or crafted their gift already) by the 15th and a confirmation of purchase/shipping by the 20th if you don't have that then remove them from secret santa and reassign whoever they were supposed to send a gift to. try to assign people with the same or near-same limit (like someone who is doing max 20 shouldn't be getting a gift from someone who is doing a max of 5 lol bc that would be hecked up).

So if we just posted interests it would require people to share their address and while destiny did that last year with no problem I feel like people would be uncomfortable with someone anonymous who had their address. But we can just survey participants to see if they would be ok with that. I would see everyone's addresses and then the gift giver would also see it.

I'm also a lil confused on confirmation. What if the person waits until the last minute to tell me they're not gonna participate and then I have to switch everything around?

I like being able to assign same-limit people tho. When we start I can ask people what their price range is and I can group them based on that. But I also want people to be flexible so that's why there is the $5min/$20max.

so this forum i've been on for like a decade used to do secret santa and what we did was we put together a list of participants, used a randomizer to pair (based on geography if people didn't/couldn't do international) and then we made a thread where participants would post their interests (i guess people could post wishlists but that kinda takes the fun and thoughtfulness out of it a bit). we always had a problem with unreliable people so i would say to ask for confirmation of gift (meaning they've at least chosen or crafted their gift already) by the 15th and a confirmation of purchase/shipping by the 20th if you don't have that then remove them from secret santa and reassign whoever they were supposed to send a gift to. try to assign people with the same or near-same limit (like someone who is doing max 20 shouldn't be getting a gift from someone who is doing a max of 5 lol bc that would be hecked up).

yeah i have tried before and it didn't work. for instance, you have to have an amazon.co.uk account in order to gift people in the uk

Oh I just thought of something else too, you can also send gifts via steam or you can buy tokens for your person on here if you wish. Does anyone have other ideas for digital gifts or other mediums besides Amazon where people don't have to give an address?

This also requires commitment. I honestly don't have any way to force people to follow through on gifts after signing up so it's really just an honor system. I will make sure to publically shame you for not sending a gift to someone :)

Could you elaborate?

Yep

Basically this will be your regular secret santa game where i will randomly assign participants to give gifts to other people anonymously. You can reveal yourself to your recipient if you want but personally I think it takes out the fun.

For maximum security against others you must create an amazon wishlist so that people can buy things for you without you having to reveal your address to anyone. This also means that you must live in the same country as your recipient, because Amazon does not allow international gifting (due to shipping i guess). That doesn't mean that only American people can play, but it does mean that if people outside of the US want to play we need to have a match of people in the same country.

I'm thinking a minimum of $5 value for the gift and maximum $20 and everyone pays for shipping on their own. I'm not sure how Destiny ran this entire thing last year and I don't think she's gonna be around on this website so I don't really have any guidance
