So recently I've been hearing talk again about the zodiac signs and how they were off, and since it's becoming a discussion once again, I'm curious if this will actually generate any discussion.

  • Capricorn: Jan 19 - Feb 15
  • Aquarius: Feb 16 - March 11
  • Pisces: March 12 - April 18
  • Aries: April 19 - May 13
  • Taurus: May 14 - June 19
  • Gemini: June 20 - July 20
  • Cancer: July 21 - Aug 9
  • Leo: Aug 10 - Sept 15
  • Virgo: Sept 16 - Oct 30
  • Libra: Oct 31 - Nov 22
  • Scorpio: Nov 23 - Nov 29
  • Ophiuchus: Nov 30 - Dec 17
  • Sagittarius: Dec 18 - Jan 18

These are the actual dates, for anyone unaware, including a 13th zodiac(Ophiuchus) I'm curious if anyone is bothered by this, or refute these new dates for the acceptance of the general personality to define you that was based off of your birth date?

Are you bothered by this

No, I like new zodiacs to relate to

no. astrology isn't a serious thing, it's mostly just "say stuff that's broad enough to match 60% of the people". the same issue's gonna happen all the time so shifts by a few days would be necessary every once in a while and that's too much effort for something that is (should be) just for fun

Astrology is pretty cool and there is some broad strokes truth to very select bits, but in my opinion too many people take astrology (and especially zodiac/star signs) way too seriously. The majority of reactions I've seen to the "changes" is more or less as follows:

Oh man, the big bad NASA changed the arbitrary list of bunk nonexistent star clusters so that my tea leaves don't correspond to what they used to! It's almost as if it's totally invalidating my subconscious consensus/confirmation bias about personality traits linked to a Chinese and Greek mythology mashup! What a world we live in! It's not as if we live in an infinite universe spanning infinite dimensions with infinite balls of hydrogen that can be drawn down on paper in any formation we like with any name and traits applied to them that we care about!

TL;DR your suffering isn't real

Slightly updated the dates due to my inaccuracy in information collecting

@Nepenthe- so with that information, for accuracy should we not be combining some of the zodiac?

wikipedia lol says

Ophiuchus is one of thirteen constellations that cross the ecliptic.[21] It has therefore been called the '13th sign of the zodiac'. However, this confuses sign with constellation.

The signs of the zodiac are a twelve-fold division of the ecliptic, so that each sign spans 30° of celestial longitude, approximately the distance the Sun travels in a month, and (in the Western tradition) are aligned with the seasons so that the March equinox always falls on the boundary between Pisces and Aries.

Constellations, on the other hand, are unequal in size and are based on the positions of the stars. The constellations of the zodiac have only a loose association with the signs of the zodiac, and do not in general coincide with them. In Western astrology the constellation of Aquarius, for example, largely corresponds to the sign of Pisces. Similarly, the constellation of Ophiuchus occupies most (November 29 – December 18[22]) of the sign of Sagittarius (November 23 – December 21). The differences are due to the fact that the time of year that the sun passes through a particular zodiac constellation's position has slowly changed (because of the precession of the equinoxes) over the centuries from when the Greeks, Babylonians and the Dacians through Zamolxis [23] originally developed the Zodiac.[24][25]

in other words, nothing to see here

I'm pretty sure the exclusion of Ophiuchus was because there are 12 months in a year and there are 13 zodiacs, meaning that the dates for zodiacs have been off since discovery

Ophiuchus would mean that scorpio is under a week long. lol.

also it would mean we need to rewrite all of homestuck and add another troll :^)

I always figured the cherubs were supposed to be Ophiuchus, considering their snake motif. :3
