Sorry about bad pictures. My mom's friend took these pictures while my mom was on vacation. I have three Maltese puppies and I miss them :( they live in my family's house and I have my own place now. They're a family! Mom, dad and son :) you definitely should get a Maltese dog. However there are things you need to know before adopting a Maltese dog!
Maltese have long hair/coat so you need to do grooming a lot. My mom usually takes them to the salon to save time. These dogs can live a long time, more than a decade on average. This means that you have to be prepared to have a dog that is going to live with you for a very long time. This is, hands down, the most important thing you need to know about this breed. When you get it, you have to care for it for the rest of its life. And you should also know that this is a breed that should stay inside and supervised as often as possible since it is small and it could be attacked by larger animals. They are also very very very friendly and literally fearless. This is bad because they would walk to the skunk or any dangerous animal if unsupervised when they're outside.
Also they aren't really "toys". They're naturally small and please do not get under 4 pounds because it's illegal bred and they can die earlier. Make sure you get all the health information before you adopt a Maltese. Also if you want to save money, make sure they're unable to make babies. My mom had to pay $400 PER puppy and surgery fees. My "mom" dog was at the risk and I'm so glad she didn't die during pregnancy.
Umm what else. Oh yeah, they're lap dogs or you can call them "clingy". They always love to be on your lap so if you're looking for that kind of dog, Maltese is for you! I literally always see that in EVERY Maltese dog.
If you feel like you can't look after a new dog often then simply don't adopt
