Even if Hillary beats Trump, which I don't think she will, America is going to have a really hard time restoring social balance. This is probably the most segregating election America has experienced in my lifetime, and by quite some margin. The fact so many people can cater their political influence to their choosing through the use of YouTube and the rest of the internet, people are far more opinionated and equipped with extremely exaggerated bias. The amount of protests happening daily from the left, and the amount that students are becoming involved with the election, is contributing to a rift which probably won't be resolved for a long while. I think your friend's situation is the case for many people on both sides of the apartheid.
