I'm sitting here recompiling most of my system packages using clang, because why not, and figured I'd just reach out and say hi, I love you all. Now AMA.

Clang was well behind GCC in terms of the quality of binaries produced for awhile but 3.9(which is currently in development) is fairly competitive and compiles much more quickly. In truth in day to day usage there's not much perceivable difference. Replacing the default kernel with pf-kernel had a much more perceivable impact.
If I didn't have access to either of my two Linux machines I'd probably favor using Mac, if only because it provides a familiar underlying environment, and the homebrew system isn't that bad. Getting a dev environment setup in windows if you're not going to be using Microsoft tools is uh, not fun, and another reason to go with Mac.
I presently just use MATE, I previously used XFCE pretty much exclusively though and I've been meaning to try out qtile.
i feel like gcc gives me faster/better executables than clang most of the time but maybe i'm just not familiar with some of the more advanced optimization features in clang.
not going to have access to my arch system for at least another 3 months though rip being at home for summer. would you use windows or mac if you didn't have access to your linux machine?
which desktop environment or window manager do you use? i used to use a pretty basic openbox (WM only) setup, then switched to xmonad because i was slowly turning my openbox setup into a tiling setup with all of the keyboard shortcuts i was setting up and using, and eventually switched to XFCE last year and never looked back.
