hi i've got a friend who really likes asmrdarling on youtube so he used a snapchat picture she made of her eating chick fil a and google earth to find the chick fil a she was eating at so that he knew what city she lived in and then he used another snapchat picture she made of her standing next to her pool at her house to find her house and now he knows her name and address and everything he spent like five hours on it i don't know what he's gonna do with this information but i'm sort of worried that whatever he's gonna do could get him in trouble with the police or fbi or something how would you guys deal with this situation if you had a friend who did this
i told him to stop at first but i don't want to discourage him now. this is the most productive he's been in his whole life. stalking an internet celebrity off the internet is the first substantial thing i can remember him ever doing.
i appreciate the legal take, thanks
Does he have some mental issue? I just wanna be sure before I insult him any further.

Like idk I'm trying my best to be good, and turn my obsessiveness towards more positive pursuits, but that's a level of obsessiveness beyond even me.
Not a legal expert, but AFAIK except in one or two states the act of collecting the info is not illegal, addresses and phone numbers being public record, despite your friends rather uh, obsessive means of obtaining them.
What your friend did in terms of the pms... Might be illegal, but I doubt he's crossed the line yet.
47 U.S. Code § 223
(a) Prohibited acts generally Whoever—
(1) in interstate or foreign communications—
(C) makes a telephone call or utilizes a telecommunications device, whether or not conversation or communication ensues, without disclosing his identity and with intent to abuse, threaten, or harass any specific person; shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.
That's a specific subsection of a larger federal anti-stalking law. I don't think the federal attorney would be able to make a case of harassment just yet, your friends messages don't sound substantial enough. But like I said, not a legal expert, an attorney would have a better idea.
As well, various state laws are potentially applicable. In most states he'd either have to have made credible threats or violated a court order barring contact before he could be hit with criminal charges.
Also even I can't believe he spent hours searching google maps like that. Tell him to stop, lmao.
UPDATE: he sent her an anonymous tip that her personal old youtube account with high school videos had personal information on it and should be made private, and in response asmrdarling has shut down her main youtube channel
