I don't think this thread is about importing the classic sandbox setup into the Main Lobby environment. If we are really talking about needing to tailor the sandbox setup to overcome 'comp rules' and 'blacklisted roles' then I think we are missing the point of the thread entirely.
i agree the current official sandbox setup is unbalanced af, but even so, it isn't supposed to be a serious comp. it should just be a way to prove that people are slightly better than other people in sandbox, thats all
People play epicmafia competitively? Holy Christ how pathetic

actually it kinda does because if you make sandbox setup ranked, you need to tailor it a ton because a lot of roles in it are blacklisted, it's unbalanced as per comp rules and methods of play would be crazy. it's just not smart.
the discussion is about making sandbox setups ranked for sandbox games, as an option that still allows you to play the same setup but unranked, so nothing you said has to do with the topic, sorry

the people who play sandbox wouldnt know what the hell to do with smt like vdli and honestly some players i feel like they wouldnt even know how to handle fp
not meaning to sound rude, but sandbox players are used to getting away with far much more -- blatant c/p of reports whether real or fake, et cetera. but i think that in a way actually makes sandbox more difficult because while you do have to use reading skills, you also have a wide range of roles someone could claim.
none really, other than the feel of self-achievement over virtual points and virtual trophies but thats the same as any other lobby
but despite the chaos that you see in some games, there are some sandbox users that are better at playing games than others, so i dont see why not give them a way to enjoy semi-serious games and actually prove they are better. the trolls and people that sui to break games will happen only sporedically, and people that frequent ranked games will know about the risks of that anyways.
There is something refreshing about adding a competitive element to an otherwise competition-absent game type.
Look at the polarization of thinking on this site (which I have addressed many times). In Main Lobby, you have players who live and die by the RULES... rules that have been handed down by holy Moses. Take a stroll over to the REPORTS section of the Main Lobby and take a look at the reports that are actually being submitted and the ones that are acted upon. There is a culture of "if I didn't win, there should be somebody to blame for my loss" and this mentality is more or less supported by the moderators. Playing a competitive game in an unconventional way is considered GT at the OUTSET and there is little room for strategies and tactics that are not written in the EPIC MAFIA TEXTBOOK (still waiting to receive my copy).
And then look at Sandbox, which has been subsequently labelled as 'everything that main lobby is not'. There is a perpetuated sentiment that trying to win in sandbox is actually ANTI-sandbox. Under this view the lobby functions as a place to troll/veg/sui and basically have fun at the expense of game play itself... ">trying in sandbox", "this is sandbox", etc.
Of course you will always stumble upon calm and reserved Main Lobby games, in the same way that once in a while, you will have a great sandbox game where everyone sticks around and there is a real struggle to win by all factions. However, it is these two dominating narratives that RULE the site and there is little accommodation for those ideas that sit somewhere in the middle.
There is a difference between being content with how things are currently and opposing change on the one hand, and ushering forth lazy anti-imagination sentiments that state that change is out of reach, on the other hand.
I will always be open to new directions and emergent forms of game play. Others will oppose.
sandbox game rules dont work in conjunction with comp game rules
they dont need to. it'd be just sandbox but you'll be having risk at stake by either losing or winning points, which most sandbox users dont care about.
then whats the point if the "comp" isnt really "comp" anyway
i'm saying its been discusses to death why it would or would not work, there's no radical thinking going on here
it hasn't tbh. people just complained about it because they forget they can play regular games and absolutely ignore ranked games. (also complained about it as an excuse to poop on whoever the current owner was)

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed a million times, you can't have comp closed roles setups
Once again, you are limiting your imagination to what the site currently allows. Circular thinking = you can't because you can't. Come and join the radical side, sl0nderman; we have more fun over here.
only problem is too many people would complain because.... no reason really, they just dont understand that if they dont like comp games they can just not play comp games and keep playing the same old games
