What is a good EM player?

almost 9 years

I was just wondering. Because it seems many people call people bad because they mishammered when they were clears, but what's the difference between a good player, an average one and someone like basiik?

This is a legit question because it looks like only the hammer matters when it's not only about being right or wrong. To prove my point: A is fosing B and D. But he doesn't tell people why they are mafias and keep spamming "Lynch them, they are mafias."

B and D are indeed mafias.

E is fosing B because B is scumtelling, he's explaining that B is mafia for good reasons. Unfortunately he's fosing A because A is doing nothing but spamming. He doesn't scumread D because he's towntelling for real.

C is clear. He hammers B then C dies. It ends to A's lynch.

Who's the best player? A because he was right? C because he hammered right? D because he towntold really hard? or E because he had a really good reasoning and tried to concince for his win condition?

Imo E & D are better than A because of his lack of explanation and he was towntelling enough, D is maybe the best player right here. What do you think?

This makes me think about another question. People judge players on their town abilities but what about maf ones? Is it harder to be a good town or a good mafia? Is a good town player better than a good mafia player? I honestly think there are really good mafia players here and they win because they are good at it, thus town can lose because, well, they were outplayed. It happens 5% of the time but still, it happens.

Have a nice day.

You can have won 4000+ games and still will lose them due to mishammers or terrible play. That's how EpicMafia is built. Good player is a relative term. Asking who's a good player is like you asked which job is good: architecture, hydraulics or electronics. There are different kinds of EM players: charismatic, strategic or cunning. And each player is different himself, he might find a game where he gets lucky and works out which role has each player, but he might even find in a game where people won't listen to him regardless how convincing he is and they will even lynch him regardless what he says.

But as I say, it's EpicMafia and players are different, they might outplay one game and suck in second. However it's a game, and we're playing to enjoy it with other players that we like as well as to rest from work and study.

But who's the good player in my opinion? This one who doesn't break rules and knows that village and mafia are two opposite teams.

None of those attributes alone make anyone a good player. Mafia is a dynamic that requires competence in a plethora of skills. In your example, being correct in your reads is a good skill to have, but if you can't get those reads lynched to win the game then it does you no good. If you explain your fos with thorough logic but fos the wrong person, that does you no good either.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Speaking, leading, influencing others, reading correctly, bold strategies, town telling, ATEing, etc.

What makes a good mafia player is consistency in high skill level over a large sample size, not just a single game.
