Spiders have 8 legs; black people are black. Both are a monstrosity!
Nah, spiders are chill.

Those machines things in the Matrix movies were literally mechanical spiders too. Q.E.D.

Same thing with how you get people hash-tag master-racing dumb things like even animes and whatever. Even the slightest differences breed tension.

Sure the unknown is scary too though.

Trust me bro, it's all a big game of Neo vs. Agent Smith. You don't gotta fear white people because you are white people, they'll never be able to just turn on you, they'll never be able to pick you out for the concentration camps. Not the same with black people though. Difference breeds tension. And then that goes deep and into the infinite too. Spiders freak people out because they are ominous.

we are not always afraid of things that are different. usually we dont know a lot about something that we are afraid of, like death and ghosts
unsureness counts too i guess

Actually there's a kinda knee-jerk fear of otherness in general. I think spiders exemplify this fear. But you get it even with siblings and same sorts, the eldest sibling often being a bit distraught about another coming along etc. Our primary capital is what we are, kinda frightening for there to be other things. (It'd be kinda difficult to fully explain that, I'd say it gets a bit existential.)

imo people are afraid of things that they don't know a lot about, not things that are different

It's kinda like how Cain killed Abel because he was afraid Abel would be more special than him. We all want to just be able to blend in with everything else, not be pitted against it.

I mean you can be afraid of being eaten by a lion still, that's only sensible.

Spiders have 8 legs; black people are black. Both are a monstrosity! (jk...for real this time.)

No it doesn't. It pinpoints other living things, and especially mostly harmless living things, feared only because they are different.
your theory says everyone who is afraid of something would be racist, which isn't true

People are afraid of spiders for much the same reason as they are racist. If you're afraid of spiders, you're plausibly more inclined to racism than someone who isn't. I mean probably not, but lol someone should do that study.

It's like that dude in Age of Ultron who's afraid of cuttlefish.

The fear of spiders is an irrational one, existing only in that they are so alien to us, much the same as how many of you can't seem to bear me making multiple posts in a row. That's what I think anyway.

When I was a kid I used smoked weed in my room all the time, so I'd have my window open late at night often, and I lived out in the country so any light on amid that otherwise complete darkness would draw all the creepy crawlies, and so my room would always be full of bugs lol. Memories~
One time I was watching netflix on my laptop and i looked up for a moment to see a big adult spider. Like he was a thick f*cker. and I freaked out and tore apart my bed to find him and i never did. To this day i still believe he is in my room... watching me.... plotting his next attack.

Why do you guys think people are so afraid of spiders?
