i said you can have a gun if you have a license for it, so you'd still have a gun. you'd just have to go through some bureaucracy and go to a gun range once a month to keep it.

well, pereking, there is no way to remove the guns already out there. criminals would be the only ones owning guns. they're criminals, they wont follow some law that says they can't have guns. cause thats what criminals do. they break the law. what happens when i, a good person, gives up my gun and then cant defend myself when one of said criminals tries to shoot me?
[this is a devil's advocate post, i don't care either way what the outcome is, i just like reading the debates]
as for the gun control argument, i don't think the amount of crazy people per capita really matters. being home to over 300 million people means there will be more dangerous people living in your country than in other countries, and greater care should be taken to make sure those people do not get their hands on dangerous weapons. the US should pass federal laws that restrict owning a gun to having a license and regulating all selling of guns, and it's a shame that there are people who live there and oppose that.
i wonder if the US having a higher percentage of diagnosed mental disorders can be attributed to psychology/psychotherapy being more accepted there than in other countries, or if the US legitimately has more mental illness per capita than anywhere else
