So basically, one huge issue this site has is simplicity for newer players. Upon joining an unranked game, which new players are forced to do, you face a couple different situations, all basically bad. You either join a game with a -ton of random roles that is a clusterfuck and scares the player away. Or you might join a game with a bunch of veterans who do stuff without an explanation which just confuses the new player, and likely drives them away. Or you join an unranked game with a bunch of other noobs who have no clue what they're doing and screw it up. In all situations, new players seem to have a tough road ahead of them. It's only the players who are smart and patient enough to learn about the site that will actually end up staying.
So, my proposal is this: Have a beginner lobby, where players are automatically sent to upon joining the site. There they can join one of the couple allowed setups (simple ones) and join a game. Simultaneously, the game will also have a couple of slots for veterans. Essentially, veterans with over 100 games played, may join the beginner lobby and join games. They can join the game, help the new players understand it, and so on. What do the veterans gain from it? Every 25 beginner games a veteran helps out in, they get 1 token (something along those lines)
This whole system encourages veterans to help out, helps new players understand the site, and I think it'd work. I want harsh critique. kThxBye
Like RUSE did? They played with "friends" every single game. They never "cheated"
People who do not want to learn play for fun. People who do not want to win, play for fun. People who do not want to learn or win are the guys who ruin this site so much.

ok i just read through some of this thread and i don't really get where the old players are abusive and new players are victims thing is coming from. think of em like one of those popular esports games. league of legends or cs:go or something. there are two game modes, competitive and non competitive. people always complain that there are tons of players in the competitive modes who ruin the experience for them because those players act like jerks. if you look at those interactions where the competitive players are jerks it's usually along the lines of comp player takes the game seriously, occasional comp player doesn't take the game seriously, occasional comp player doesn't put a lot of effort into the game while comp player gives 110%, comp player gets pissed off at occasional comp player, comp player starts yelling at occasional comp player. ideally neither one of them would do those things but this idea that the experience of playing the game is completely tarnished by fire breathing veteran players isn't at all fair. i don't think that there's any realistic way to fix that complex
You're free to play with friends in both ranked, and unranked, just not cheat with them in the former because well, games aren't fun if people cheat. Which brings us back to the reason people play: fun. Also Donkey Kong is a single player game.
This is single player game. Not a party game. if you play with friends then is a party game. if you play with friends here, its cheating. You play for yourself here. Win or lose. thats it. Nothing more.
What i hate most is when i am killed and rage because maf is obvious, but town loses and says : It is just a game, chill. How i am gonna chill, if 1 : I lost points and i can't get a trophy. 2: I get yet another loss, when i am trying to have more wins than losses. 3: I called mafia and no one listened. And who is to blame? Me because i get reported for. Because it's just a game, have fun and don't get mad.
Well for me games are something i get really mad about and really angry and they are never, never just for fun. They are for playing and seriousness. You can't play and expect to win if you are not serious about it.
In regular games people are pretty much lynching and following the clear and not thinking on their own. Comp games have a little more thinking and they are just not prepared to think. People play just for fun and thats the problem. People should not just play for fun.
People playing a party game for fun sure is a problem.

you've now branched into the realm of telling people not to have fun, dude. please think logically about this

Most new players who entered the 1500 points say how much different comp plays are and give up. Because everyone is x10 more worse than in regular games.
and potential comp players will grow from there, what's the problem
Most of the current comp players are *****. Whats the point if every new comp player is either an alt or a player who will act the same way as everyone else, just to fit in.
if you just want to learn how people play mafia here it's better to be n1d than not
D1: NL D2: Lynch this guy cos he looks scummy. D3(If town gets lucky d2): Im clear, i want this guy i wont unvote.
The End. What did you learn ? I learned that Fancy Pants teaches nothing of value, but if you are a new player you have to play this because there is always one of them open.

anyways i don't feel like i need to come up with any ideas because i don't think that anything actually needs to be fixed. the way it is now isn't really welcoming to new players but it doesn't have to be. people who actually want to get into mafia will not have a problem if they sit through a few games to learn how things are done
YOU ARE NOAVI, DO NOT PLAY WITH US SCUM, YOU HAVE 1-2 GAMES OMG SUCH A LOSER. WE WILL N1 YOU EVERY GAME. DO NOT PLAY EVER. - Every single game when you are a new player.

If you can find a way to teach people how to read mafia and how to read town , and not follow blindly, then i will thank you. But unless there is some kind of punishment people will never learn to read on their own.
What i hate is when someone says : This is just a game.
