I would be pretty salty too if I worked on showing the mod team that I could be a competent mod, worked on an application to the point where it was up to my standards, and finally became a mod over a community that was not the community I wanted to serve, but rather a community saturated with not-so-subtle hostility towards moderators and people who don't respect the work that I want to do for them.
