Oi. Questions and ideas:
How does comp work? Is it first to reach 2000? Or just who has most points when all hearts are played?
General Ideas to make comp better:
There is no FAQ/introduction anywhere. Might be good to make. Another idea is that this automatically pops up first few times you join comp, because there have been quite a few games with people who played the setup for the very first time in comp.
Then a further requirement for joining comp could be that you need to have played a setup 5 times (or so) before you can play it comped. The comp setups could then all be featured (x2) setups in the interim between different rounds so people play them a lot and comp becomes better.
Right now comp is too accessible in the sense that you can just join if you have 1500 points (which means nothing as that is just 30 wins in FP or so) and too inaccessible in the sense that it is really hard to get information on what it is and how it works. Especially because players are not very helpful to newer players. (E.g. it took me a long time to even learn the difference between red/orange hearts and to find out that comp works in rounds which you can see when you click round.)
I think this would benefit everyone, as newer players don't get shouted at as much because they're new. (Either newer players don't play or they are less new.) And older players have to deal less with clueless players.
A completely other idea is to make two (or more) leagues of comp every round. One which you can join with 1500 points, one with either a lot more points or with a top 30 placement in any round before. This would make everyone happy as well I think, as players play more against their own level, which eases tension.
Edit: because no characters in post (and paragraphs), in response to Jaleb:
Thanks for your response,
I think more than 10% will read it, esp if people can refer to it when people are nooby. Depends how well it is written and if it is actual questions from users or a pedagogic "fake" FAQ, (I think a mix would be best.) If you think the costs outweigh the benefits that's fine, but a lot of people are complaining. Too me it seems the current system is suboptimal.
Bad metaphor: comp players are trying to climb the mount everest with correct training and gear. Some other people want to tag along because it seems like fun to climb the mt everest, but they can't do it. This becomes clear at some point but by then they're already stuck as a group. Almost everyone dies in the snow. Sometimes an expensive helicopter mission is needed to recover the bodies and restore order.
Second point: The exact workings should be more thought out, but to me it seems relatively little happens between rounds, so if all comp setups from next round are x2 and need to be played maybe at least ONCE by player X before X is able to play that setup in comp, it would already help with frustrations. Atm you spend 1500 points to join which seems like a much bigger hassle to me. New setups could be comped just fine, people would just need to play them once before being able to play them comped.
I couldn't find Bronze, Silver, Gold lobbies, where they a failure? I think different lobbies has the disadvantage of being always empty though. So it might be worth a shot to have them in Main. If not, that's fine too. I just wanted to spark some ideas, again because I see something suboptimal and I hate suboptimal play. I heard some people were quite positive about training lobby, but wasn't here when it was around.
I'm spending way too much time on EM/this though. Deffo taking a break after this round again. Also, it doesn't seem to generate that much reaction. I'll post it in the lobby chat + comments and if it dies, it dies.
