The Cheryl Math Problem

over 9 years

How many of you actually solved it without googling for a solution?

Did you?

I deserve a national medal for my work in this thread in Math and Art

Yes I read above posts and people were squandering

this is isn't really difficult guys, like the only only issue is people failing to interpret that Albert just outed that arbitrarily

- albert says words
- the fact that he knows immediately that it can't be bernard means he doesn't have a month with a unique date so you can rule out may and june
- then when bernard says he figured it out that means he must have one out of 15, 16, 17 as the 14's are eliminated due to not being unique
- then when albert figures it out we know it's june 16 and not the two august dates since he wouldn't be able to work it out in that case.

thank u

You're wrong lol

Yes! Typo

it blew up because it's about 2 dudes chasing a girl + it is confusing like women

idk why people even say this is a math problem, it's a stupid logic problem. i would've gotten it on my first try but instead of eliminating the whole months based off what the first guy said I omitted specific dates which screwed me up. After I saw the answer i went back and did it.

If there were a June 16 then the real answer wouldn't be reachable anyway.

It still would be dismissed through statement 1

Shivv said June 16 and the answer isn't June 16. I said he was wrong because I remembered there being June 16 as an actual answer, which isn't true.

peta it wouldn't make a difference if there was a june 16th bro

People are literally trying to argue that August 17 is a legitimate answer because they can't admit to themselves that they made a mistake on a problem that is hardly even a measure of intelligence. It's a logic puzzle.

I remember seeing this before the internet blew up about it. It's strange people are going wild about a high school contest problem.
over 9 years
Oh I misremembered there being a June 16.

I got the wrong answer most people got, reread it, and got the right answer pretty quickly. It's actually really simple; it's just a matter of whether you have practice with logic puzzles.
deletedover 9 years
It was easy, I just used logic instead of math.
deletedover 9 years
it was really easy. i pretty much just read the answer reading this thing
over 9 years
This was really easy...

Only problem was misreading the question and trying to solve possibilities for Albert being given the day or the month, when I didn't realise it said which one was given the day/month until a second reread.
