I am writing about the prevalence of cheating, specifically multi-accounting in comp games. I'm pretty sure it's higher than ever, and honestly it is too time-consuming to research and draft reports on these idiots. They are getting clever by using fake personas and weird as f** language (obviously distinct from any other player at the table). It's funny when they accidentally break character (i.e. in 3way their lines suddenly become legible; overnight they turn into experienced players with magical towntell). It also makes the game REALLY depressing if you wind up mafia with the cheater's thrower account.
If you're playing competitively, lookout for accounts that just surpassed 1500 points and have weak win rates, and numerous suicides. Don't bother with a shady looking table, and just play with quality people because there are loads out there!

there is some incredibly disconcerting psychology to this game and being good at it

i have often said i don't like the game in general.

mafia is very near and dear to the real world, at least for me.

i really don't think it is connor. mafia is actually a game that's not very far distanced from real life at all, nothing like soccer or football or whatever, which are basically inert, real pointless fun. this game has gravity. it doesn't seem so unreasonable to me that people would win at it by whatever means.
i personally wonder if a game in which one must lie to get ahead is not particularly conducive to cheating. perhaps the cheaters cheat in compensation for their shortcomings and that they actually feel justified in doing so, as if it's just a part of the game
I know some of them want to be scrutinized, and some of them don't. I don't think there's a universal rule that works here.

it was hilarious

maxwell got drunk one time and sent me a bunch of messages wondering why people cheated i think he was basically wanting to hear my opinion on him as a cheater himself

gold trophy = status symbol = increase chance of mate
I also think they are terrified of being found out, and dislike the thought of being scrutinized. It would be like questioning the legitimacy of their skill thus a blow to their ego
I think its happens due to ego and wanting that feeling of superiority, especially the ones that go to great lengths using different personas/styles of writing. Its what they get simply out of winning. Also the attention they receive for correctly reading the mafia which everyone else failed to. This kind of person probably has low self-esteem and craves attention..
Yeah that's true. I just meant it's corny in that its one of those things everyone says.
Well different cheaters cheat for different reasons.
The particularly nefarious ones will do it for the attention and watching the community prove they cheated (or not) as you say.
More commonly, people just cheat because that's the way they want to play with their friends, and they don't take it seriously enough to change their behaviors based on the rules.
