Just listened to a kid in a 200s level university English course argue that the novel "The Exorcist" is really just an allegory for puberty, and that Pazuzu was really just Reagan's period.

I will take my intellectual spanking like a man, instead of deleting the thread
I read a book titled "The Dialogues of Plato" in which he discussed philosophy through Socratic dialogue. I do not remember anything called The Crito or the Phaedo.
"HURRRRRRRRRRRRRBBLLRRERRR the state is executing me for no reason other than the fact that I'm extremely annoying and I said some things that a bunch of people didn't like, but I agree that I should be executed because that's the rules lol"

I've only read the Dialogues and I'm not familiar with the other things you listed, but I enjoyed the Dialogues.
I vaguely remember being OK with some things in the Dialogues but the Phaedo is stunningly intolerable and pretty much wipes out all my respect for Plato, and Socrates's insistence on his own annihilation in the Crito is hilariously stupid.

Am I supposed to pretend that I did not read or enjoy Plato, for fear of looking pretentious on the internet?

That's actually totally incorrect. You dissed Plato and I said that I disagreed, because I read and enjoyed what he wrote.
I feel like you just made that post to advertise the fact that you've read Plato. You've read him and goddamn it if you aren't gonna get an iota of Internet cred out of it. I might feel similarly.

Hey dude Plato was pretty cool, I read his dialogues and enjoyed them
I remember a girl in my introductory statistics class (the class that all the dumb humanities majors took for our math requirement) asked whether "absolute value" meant the number had to be positive. That was pretty dumb.
