i understand your concerns about the growth of soccer in america, unfortunately i have to say that it will never surpass the popularity of football and basketball or maybe even baseball. that said, soccer is a good starting sport for kids. when they get older options become more open and people start playing more types of contact sport. i love soccer and i hope americans can understand the beauty of this sport just like every other country in the world.
i should be supporting the chicago fire, but i watch soccer in europe cause its 10x better.
To be fair, the fire isn't too good at the moment, so it's understandable. However, I absolutely hate when people become eurosnobs and write off all American soccer. Europe has had a lot more popularity and history to soccer than American soccer ever has. On top of that, the league the Fire is in has only been around since 1996, so it's still relatively new.
Soccer in American is arguably on the level of the Championship league (D2 in England) It's not really a matter of watching the highest quality games, it's more a matter of supporting your local team and letting the sport grow in America as a whole.
For me, the atmosphere of the stadium makes the experience exciting. For this reason, I enjoy most college sports, soccer, and football.
However, I cannot watch baseball and pro basketball because the stadiums feel dead. I want to be excited with the fans. Even if i'm not at the stadium, I want to see the excitement of fans which makes the product on the field so much more exciting.
