Idea Alert! (Wee-ooh wee-ohh)

deletedalmost 11 years

I'm very tired and I am writing this before I go to bed so this might be gibberish but I need to get this on digital paper before I lose the idea. Onward!

The current mod system on EM is flawed. There. I said it. No beating around the bush. I say this because there is no power in the common user. Feeling this way, the common user will feel compelled to lash out at the mods, which we have seen of late. "Oh, but bear! There is no real impact of this!"

Wrong.

Within the last month or so, 2 mods have stepped down, Slow and Retti. 1 hour and 19 minutes ago, Vancy stepped down as admin. In their send off speeches, they have all mentioned how the community is terrible and negative. The reason the community is so horrid here is because there is no power in the common user. With no power, the community grows negative. It doesn't take the Big Book of How to Say It-- Business Edition to explain that negative atmosphere is bad for business. Granted, EM is not a legitimate business, not to the point of having a stock, but it is a community. Negative communities are horrible for any group or company. The community here has gotten so negative that borderline propaganda against mods is causing them to resign. This needs to be fixed or EM will crumble, as it is starting to do.

Now. On to the reason why I made this post. If you have read this far, it is probably really redundant and all just a big mess with all grammar rules out the window, but hey. It's 1 AM here.

The community is currently divided up into 4 groups. We have our admins, Jasprar and Lucid, and our mods, rutab, gene, pere, oliver, melody, tashie, etc. We have our forum mods, which I am sure none of you have heard of, like Shmeur, and we have the common user. Mentors fall in there somewhere, but they do not have enough power to grant them a place in the EM political pyramid. What we need is another group. Mods have too much work on their plate and the common user is starving. Forum mods are borderline useless to the point where nobody even cares anymore and all they do is move topics, which mods do most of anyway. This new position would let the good users on this site become more in part of the EM system. We need people to handle reports. All they can do are give No vio's and notes, but they take so much time from the mods so they can work on more important things.

Looking back on that, that could be difficult to pull off. Let me revise that.

When you file a report, you can make it so the reporter files a report under a certain category. Each of these new users in the positions will be able to handle one kind of report, or a group effort. Mods should not have to spend as much time on the reports as they do.

In conclusion, we need this. EM is crumbling. We must preserve it.

Good idea?

Arcbell says

No the reason the community is terrible and negative is that the community enjoys being terrible and negative. It's a pastime of sorts.

This is nonsense, I think we should get Arcbell some water.

In any case, it needs to change. Admittedly, this is not the way to do it, but it will be done. I will fix this.

I mean we need a new system, one which will give good users a new position but not have as much power as mods. Maybe the users will group the reports so the mods can look at them easier.

so a backroom of sorts? sounds like a good idea on paper but the problem is trying to execute it as lucid is not open to new ideas from what i've seen
