For ladies not versed in classic rock, I've compiled some well-known classic rock bands/singers with female vocals;
Fleetwood Mac songs with Stevie Nicks in them (1975 onward)
Janis Joplin
Jefferson Airplane
Patti Smith
Heart
Pat Benatar
And of course a lot of the male rock singers in the 70s stuck to the higher registers as well, so you can always check out those.
