What you're asserting at is that Manhunt is harder to win, when I feel that it is only harder mathematically. The skill involved to win doesn't translate as well. It's obviously a more subjective measure, but it ultimately boils down to luck quite a lot more than something like Jan 2.
You're right - but it also doesn't help that Manhunt is a crapshoot and despite it's increased difficulty to win, it doesn't change the fact that's it's not played at all like mafia.
Day 1: NL for Jailer and fast so spy can't contact killer
Day 2: "How can we create autowin based on last night's roulette?"
The games I've played of it this round felt like playing gallis hunter. It wasn't taken very seriously and everyone played it like a numbers game above all else.
Manhunt is significantly more difficult to win on consistently (Making it harder to establish a positive w/r) and pays out accordingly. The point payout system is the equalizer to runners running on different setups.
For a non-manhunt related example, let's take three setups.
Setup A: 57% mafia win, 43% town win. Setup B: 50% mafia win, 50% town win Setup C: 45% mafia win, 55% town win
Runners A, B, and C run on their respective setups.
Runner A accumulates a record of 29-21 Runner B accumulates a record of 31-19 Runner C accumulates a record of 34-16
How do you decide who deserves which placing? By weighing how stacked against the runner the setup they ran on is-AKA the point payout system. I didn't go back and add current point payouts because how much the payout should be is debatable.
There are lots of reasons to criticize Manhunt as a competitive setup, but the fact that it pays out higher than standard setups is not one of them.
