It should be up to the players to determine which quotes are falsified enough and the biggest reason is in fiddler setups, there is zero point of having a fiddler if people can just quote things the player missed and have it be 100 percent Gospel.
Being able to falsify quotes will add a metagame to fiddler setups rather than making the role more than a stupid nuisance role.
The idea that modifying the text on your OWN page and quoting the end result is scripting is beyond idiotic. Scripting effects the site or page period....
Scripting is like what the trolls did to hide hidden links on people's page.
Modifying text on ones own display does nothing to damage the integrity of the site.
As far as fair play concerns, it is highly impractical 90 percent of the time to do this as a legitimate technique, largely due to the fact that again, since it's not actual scripting the integrity of the quote remains unchanged and people can easily just reread the quote and see the person lied, basically confirming themselves as mafia.
The one time this would be practical would be to correct an oversight regarding the quote mechanism as it regards to the Fiddler role...obviously when the Fiddler was created there was no quoting system so this game breaking mechanic was irrelevant.
I don't understand why it's forbidden to begin with. There is no logical reason to do so unless you are scum...so you'd basically be outting yourself if used for game related reasons.
In the case that it actually works, that person deserves to lose for being negligent.
On the other hand, the ONE time this would actually be a useful tactic, which is to prevent autoloss situations via pr reports on a fiddled town by putting into doubt the authenticity of the quote which ruins the entire ing point of the fiddler to begin with.....it actually makes perfect sense and should be allowed.
Yes QRich, fiddler is a horribly bad, easily countered, fun-ruining piece of garbage. Also if you fiddle say sheriff then paralyze the votes towns swimming in open water.
