Di Maria has played in central midfield (like for Argentina at the world cup and for Real Madrid before they sold Ozil), wide left/right and number 10 in the past few years. He's extremely versatile. Perfect for Van Gaal.
He's no Tony Hibbert, mind.

Chelsea are g oing to win the league at a canter this year.
1. Chelsea 2. Man City 3. Arsenal 4. Man Utd
I think. Of course, if Welbeck gets injured, and Arsenal have to rely on Yaya Sanogoal then you can bump them below United.

Di Maria always used to play in central midfield, so 4-3-1-2 is perfect for him. And with Mata in the number 10. role, it's perfect for him too. It does require one of Rooney/RVP/Falcao/Mata to not be in the team, but that just allows for squad rotation. The only formation you could play all four would be some sort of 4-2-2-2 or god forbid a 4-2-4.
Pretty sure Di Maria has been operating out wide for the most part of his more recent years.

Fellaini is indeed a , but when you have that few central midfielders that he's forced to play Januzaj and Kagawa there, and even recall god damn Anderson to the team, you need more CM's. Even Fellaini is better than Anderson.
You would have been able to swear here if not for AdSense issues.

losing cleverley must have been a big blow to the squad
When the entire list of central defenders at the start of the season was Johnny Evans, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Tyler Blackett (Youth Squad player), then I think Evans was actually a bit of a miss. Even if he does suck, and once Rojo is playing and we get rid of the three at the back, he shouldn't be anywhere near the first 11.
As for Lingard, I don't think he's particularly bad. He got injured too soon to make a judgement.

Mika is my only friend, Harry didn't even say hi :(

Yeah but I kinda ignored your 4-3-1-2 idea because I don't see Mata or Di Maria being brought in to the squad for those kind of plans.
100m in signings just so they can be played in an uncomfortable position.

It's surprising how they haven't managed to win a single game with a squad like that
A combination of 3-4-1-2 not working particularly well and a massive injury list hasn't helped.
Shaw, Rojo (Work Permit), Smalling, Evans, Valencia, Lingard, Fellaini, Carrick, Herrera and Rafael have all been unavailable so far and all would have played a part, most likely.
You say that as if Lingard, Fellaini or Evans contribute positively to the team.

That's why I didn't suggest a diamond formation but a 4-3-1-2, Harrold. The fullbacks bomb up in that formation while the DM (Daley Blind) drops back when they have the ball.

Not really. New manager, new squad, no belief.

Rooney wouldn't a goalscorer in a striker partnership with Falcao. He'd be holding the ball up and bringing others into play to get the ball to Falcao. A false nine.
Yeah, except in a diamond formation this is so much harder because the wingbacks are able to cover a lot more in the centre of the park, rather than being dragged out wide to cover runners. It makes it far more suffocating near the penalty area and it'll be hard for either Rooney or Falcao to have much freedom.
