Shivv, I'd like to try and make it work, because at the very least it does get new players playing competitive quality setups instead of Classic/FP/Coco's all day. I agree that the two lobbies really aren't different enough to warrant two competitions, but it does have some benefits.

Alright, I'll come back with more ideas if I think of any, that's all I have right now haha.
That won't work either, because the round system operates independently from the lobby system. From my talk with lucid about it, I believe it works something like this.
The Round numbering system is an independent source that generates competitions and round numbers. Each lobby with an enabled competition essentially goes to the round system and takes a number and claims it, like taking a number on line at a deli or something. Because all of it comes from one source, all of the rounds in each lobby are treated the same way (2000 points to win, 2 setups per winner, etc), so the rounds aren't customizable to their respective lobby because they're all generated by one system. This is why the numbering system in each individual lobby is really weird and doesn't make any sense when looked at in that specific lobby.
Fixing it would mean making individual round systems for each lobby which I'm not sure is feasible for lucid to do.

What if, since it's training lobby, you lowered the amount of points needed to win the competition (1500?). I can see more people trying to reach this point amount since most players here are new and won't spend as much time on this website as those who have been on here for a while and know how everything works. This is a smaller and more reachable goal for newer players to aim for and it will lessen the time put in to win the competition. They would want to come back to play the next round since it's not such a long process as it was at 2000 points to win.
Lucid wants it, so it's not getting removed just yet.

No ones really familiar with any of the setups in this round tbh. Make setups like OTR, VDLI or Cry n Spy (basically a setup that the lobby is familiar with) mandatory for every round.
There's no option for that right now, it'd have to be a lucid implemented feature. I don't think stratification is the answer here though. There just isn't really a culture for trophy-running in the lobby right now

If there isn't already, maybe you should make a point limit as to when someone can join the competition. Now I don't know if there is one as of right now or not, but I feel like that would make people play some red heart games and get a feel for how to play certain setups. They could red-heart the setups that have been comped as practice for when they can join. I wouldn't set it at a ridiculously high amount of points, but how about 1,000 points?
Yeah Rutab, that's a good point - Training Lobby competition is definitely a more difficult environment to run in. Not because it's more challenging, but because there's a much higher frequency of poor play and thrown games that aren't really rectifiable.
I'd consider allowing gold heart refunds in Training Lobby, that may help, although it will make more work for the mod team.
@Satan, tokens have been tried before from my understanding and it hasn't really helped too much =/
people should donate tokens, which should be awarded to winners.
win-win

I have actually been thinking that it's due to the lack of excitement. I think, honestly, that everyone is getting bored and not playing all of the hearts that they have. I think everyone is just stopping their play so much because no one is interested in finishing out a round. Besides, gold hearts cannot be refunded in training lobby and people can easily get screwed out of a win in the competition.
