I often see in sandbox(and a bit in main even though I'm hardly there, but I'm sure it happens just as much), topics being locked because they go too off topic, and people are spamming. Why is this? If people are spamming in a topic, they should be held accountable, but instead the punishment is the topic being locked, even if OP had nothing to do with the situation.
So a simple question, are the mods using other peoples' spam as an excuse to lock unfavorable topics?
I feel that this is one of the most obvious tricks on the website, so now I ask: Why do the spammers get the win by getting a topic locked, instead of receiving a spamming violation, or have their posts deleted for being completely off topic?
I can agree with game mode but knowing sandbox everything is just a domino effect for drama
But yes our general discussion is a victim of this. While I don't agree with the topics in question that are being locked I feel that losing the spammers accountable or even move it to the spam forum. People are trying to provoke discussion and those who are against it spam and go off topic until it's locked
If I wanted things to be sandbox specific I'd bring it to sandbox. I think spam is not treated as something that is against the rules but something that is used as a tool and my complaint is that whoever is currently moderating any forums either be it main or sandbox it's not done in an efficient manner
As I said, I havent seen it happening in Main lobby so frankly Im not sure what you're talking about. You're more than welcome to post some examples since I cant find any
as the OP I'm pretty sure you can ask for posts to be deleted and to have your thread reopened. I don't think any mod would deny this, or at least they really shouldn't
also its really not as bad in sandbox as it is in main. try making a thread there, it'll either be 100% ignored or 100% spammed with like 5 people circlejerking each other, even worse than here.

This is something that Ive seen in Main Lobby atleast, so I'd suggest you take it over PM's with bebop, unless you got a formal complaint regarding him.

( ° ͜ʖ͡°)╭∩╮ hey jimbei here's a mod reply for u ( ° ͜ʖ͡°)╭∩╮
In seriousness, it's difficult to stop this kinda thing and I personally have been trying to limit the amount I do this, but in some situations it really is the lesser of two evils. In most cases, the spammers don't get a spamming violation because nobody reports them for it.
But since you're moderating sandbox, why don't you delete spam posts instead of locking the topic for said spam posts?
During my time as sandbox moderator excuses like going to far or going too off topic would be used to get a topic locked, granted if the OP's intentions is to bait people into going to far that's one thing, but if OP is being harmless in their intentions then during the moderation of the forums shouldn't the moderators be the ones who are taking action?
If no one's reporting that's one thing but in this case I feel the mods are taking action but are taking the wrong action.

Funny how any actual call out threads don't get any mod replies
Actually if you go back and look through the recent topics that actually matter in the Complaints subforum, the mods have responded appropriately to being called out. With that being said, I'll leave the deducing to you as to why they hadn't responded to this one, until Bebop did just now.
It was a strategic post to try to get a mod to reply in order for them to save face
As a former site moderator, I can indeed confirm that we had at least 5 different users, at any given time, that we used to derail any and all threads that we didn't necessarily care for.
we just used steve to come in and kill threads by posting
